What is a Tavern Night?

A tavern night is a night of role-play with no combat. At this particular event we are allowing the use of potions, elixirs, and touch-casting. The cast and crew team may also use voice effects, vengeance, fey curse, and other non-combat monster effects (but it’s not very likely). If your character would have no other reasonable choice other than to fight, please see a member of the writing team to help resolve your issue.

This tavern night is also pot luck, both in and out of game. The writing team will be providing beverages. A separate thread on the forums will be started for sharing what is needed and for individuals to sign up with what they are bringing.

Downtime action: If you would like downtime actions to be resolved by the Tavern Night, please submit your downtime actions to brimmswatch@alliancesf.net by Sunday, December 7th at 11:59 pm.

Hope to see you at the event!

In Game Invitation:

A letter in an envelope sealed with wax bearing the signet symbol of the Baroness Volkov is delivered to you.** The letter reads:

You are most cordially invited to attend the celebration of the Winter Accord at White Howl, the Estate of Baroness Volkav, on the thirteenth day of the last month of the year. We are most pleased to welcome old and new friends alike to our gathering, from recent arrivals to the Kingdom of Tharros who have chosen to enter our borders, to those whom have crossed the mysterious ephemeral barriers from beyond which many fine and fascinating guests to our Kingdom have recently arrived. Please join us as we welcome each of you along with the joyful adventure of this recent and most astonishing expansion of the world we once knew.

So that we may begin to appreciate the cultural traditions of our new friends, our gathering will include offerings of libations and cuisine as each guest chooses to contribute. We are also delighted to present a series of games and theatricals for the education and pleasure of you, our guest, and to promise special rewards given to those who display the most skill in presenting a meal, as well as for those who accompany their dishes with particularly fascinating tales of their lives and adventures in the worlds we are now most privileged to learn of and to appreciate. It is our fondest hope to forge new understandings and affections in this time of great change. In turn our people will share music and teach you a basic dance of the Kingdom.

For these new friends who come to us from worlds not just unknown to us, but previously impossible for us to even imagine, we would like to share the details, importance and history of the Winter Accord. This holiday was celebrated first by the Karlik, and then, as Tharros became a place of thriving for all of its races, the event became a time for all to share in a night of celebrating and honoring the ancient accord between Volkigant and Zhelesokol.

Our ancestors believed that that Volkigant, a gargantuan wolf with fur as black and shiny as obsidian, was the reason for the night, as he would run across the sky evading the swooping attacks of Zhelesokol, a giant falcon made of iron polished until it glowed bright with its own light. This magnificent metal bird was said to cast sparks as its iron feathers rubbed against each other. While today we understand that what our ancestors observed was in truth the darkness of night when the sun sets , the moon moving across the sky, and that the “sparks” of Zhelesokol were only the stars, we continue to honor our ancestors, as well as give respect to the mysteries of life itself, in following their tradition of the Winter Accord celebration. It is a gathering of peace, as exemplified by the Accord itself, which teaches us that even mortal enemies are often entwined in purpose, and can find peace together.

One such tradition is the lighthearted exchange of mystery gifts, each festooned in paper with holiday décor and other sign of beauty, so only its size and shape is apparent. In much the same way that Volkigant and Zhekeskolol had the strength of character to accept an Accord together on the basis of hope and faith, and in reflection of the infinite ways our beloved friends perceive and express their experiences, we find it is pleasant and amusing for each guest to offer an inexpensive but interesting white-wrapped gift to the communal gathering, and for each guest to receive a mystery gift based on a numbered system, wherein the opportunity to exchange or retain one’s assigned gift may be considered.

We hope you will forgive our need to request that the casting of magic or the drawing of weapons or globes must be prohibited during this event for the comfort and safety of all our guests. For those new to our Kingdom, please understand that during the Winter Accord holiday, a most terrible fate befalls those who engage such activities, and that while we would regret most deeply the interruption to our festivities, we cannot be responsible for the holiday hex which would inevitably result.

Sincerely,

Baroness Mischa Volkov
