Vansir Destroy Vacarran Ship

On the 4th evening of Swan the resort estate of South Point bore witness to an explosive display of Vansir courage as three warriors, Halldorr and Ta’ak of the Wolf Tribe and Deegan of the Sheep tribe detonated hundreds of pounds of explosive traps aboard the Vacarran Corsair Galleon the Sea Lion’s Thunder, utterly destroying it and raining down fiery debris as far north as the estates of Zalinarik’s Keep and Vornithalin.  Some residents in Waterwood have even claimed that they heard a muffled explosion late that Saturday night.

The Amani Ranger Aredhel came into the Hillside Casino run by Nunzio Strongfoot at South Point late Saturday night telling gathered adventurers there that he was to meet a friend about a grave matter.  He spoke softly and somewhat cryptically of portents of danger, but his presence was enough to make most ready themselves for battle.

Shortly, the energetic Karobwa Y. I. Otter arrived, leading Synvian Council member Shree J’ree, and spoke of a huge docked Vacarran Pirate ship aboard which several rodent and beaver Karobwa were being kept hostage along with a ton of explosive material to be used in traps for some unknown nefarious purpose. The ship itself was also known to have the ability to generate mindless undead limitlessly within its hull!

Ranger Aredhel, with the assistance of gathered adventurers, drew up a simple plan:  While strong warriors cut a path through the undead, then held a line, a lightly armored retrieval squad was to move swiftly and carefully through a delicate hall lined with explosives. Once the Karobwa were free of the ship, all would withdraw.

The retrieval squad consisted of Ogre Yu’der, Shenk, a wild elf from beyond the mists, a stalwart dwarven woman named J’Lanka, the Kiergani Kit Foxglove, as well as a few others who were fleet of foot.

Vansir, as well as elves, Ducal Soldiers, and a handful of other volunteers comprised the warrior flank.

First in and last out were the Vansir, led by Halldorr and Ta’ak.  The plan was simple, yet very effective with the whole of the raid completed in less than five minutes.

When the Karobwa were safe and all of the adventurers had retreated to the gang plank, the three Vansir slammed the door shut and held it shut, staring at the undead within. Ranger Aredhel called out for a full retreat asking the Vansir what they thought they were doing. A reply was heard something to the effect of, “We’ve done your mission, but ours is a different one.”  With that the three Vansir entered the ship and battle cries and steel against steel was heard.

Moments later a fireball ripped through the night sky the like of which has not been seen since Icenian Archmage Pentathos created the fiery gaffe for which he was made infamous. Witnesses say that as the ship seemed to tip slightly towards the bow, bubbles of liquid fire burst through the port holes in a wave starting in the stern and ending at the bow before the ship splintered in half, then disintegrated, scattering charred lumps of wood over three estates in the Ash Forest. In the morning, a split and charred mast was found over four miles from the dock and local children were trading lumps of charred wood as if they were treasures.

Several pirates fell from the sky having been shot into the air and not killed immediately by the explosion. Transforming from their cursed undead form into fleshy human ones once they were no longer over the sea, they hit the ground near the Hillside Casino. Bruised, with shattered bones from the impact, they begged for mercy, which the adventurers gave them in swift deaths.

The dock was, of course, completely destroyed and damages are estimated at over one hundred gold pieces. Several small fires throughout the estate were quickly put out by locals who were at first angered by the fires and then awestruck by the bravery and selfless sacrifice of the Vansir in their destruction of literally countless undead.

Ranger Aredhel was overheard saying that he had perhaps made the wrong choice, and that he would have been glad to die beside the Vansir

Deegan was the first to resurrect and was seen shortly thereafter battling undead naked but for a borrowed longsword in one hand and clenching a cloak over his waist in the other. Ta’ak followed and joined Deegan against the undead, but nearly an hour went by as many fretted that perhaps Halldorr had met his permanent death. The Vansir present began to toast his name and call out deeds of his past honor when his spirit finally came to the circle.  The proud high orc Tetsu performed all three resurrections by the reluctantly granted permission of the Healer’s Guild master.

An altercation ensued between the Healer’s guild master and Deegan over allowing Halldorr out of the circle, with an eventual resolution being reached between them and Renna, a baronial soldier who was on hand to keep things under control.

In the morning, the three heroes entered the Hillside Casino and tavern for breakfast and when asked about their heroic deeds they said, “Oh, that?  Yes it was glorious... but that was last night. We must focus on the Honor that awaits us today.”

All three expressed disappointment at successfully resurrecting, but were overheard saying, “Ah well, the Fates obviously have something else in mind ... say, do you think Jotens have ships?”

Disgraced Soldier Leads Vacarrans

Adventurers in South Point were shocked to find an undead among the Vacarran Pirates wearing the beloved red and white of Ashbury. The being, known only as the Tactician, was not a Vacarran, as he remained undead even on land. He was seen giving orders on the field and organizing the pirates into tactical positions, causing heavy losses among the adventurers.

The hate in the air was palpable as several members of the ducal army Including Ignatius Vex stared at the creature dishonoring the uniform they all wore.

Sunday afternoon, Ignatius, J’lanka and Shenk, among others managed to locate the Tactician’s spirit bottle. Back in town, Iskalda and Tetsu awaited with an empty, Wizard Locked building.a

Shenk ran back to the building with the bottle while the remaining adventurers held off the Tactician, but refrained from killing him until the bottle was safely inside. When he was defeated, the Tactician reformed at his bottle and was now trapped.

The adventurers gathered and continued to fight the being. Even the biata present braved the pain of celestial magic to deal a blow to this vile thing. Ignatius could be heard howling in agony, but he refused to see the ducal uniform disgraced any longer. Each time the Tactician reformed, those fighting him exited the building to rest and allow others to fight. This continued until the creature’s permanent death.

Later that day, the Vacarrans returned, including Captain Black Maggie, demanding a ship to replace the one the Vansir had destroyed the night before. But now, without the tactician, the pirates were disorganized and fought poorly.

The adventurers defeated them easily. They have not been seen in South Point since then. It is believed that they have moved their operations back out to sea.

Plane Touched Attack Bloodstone; Most Deadly Yet

The serenity of a pre-spring dawn in Bloodstone on the last day of Dolphin was shattered by the all too familiar cries of the Plane Touched.   This most recent attack has left over a hundred Biata permanently dead at least twenty others resurrected including at least a dozen children, as well as the death of countless Ducal and Baronial soldiers lost in what is being called the most systematic and brutal attack to date.

The Plane Touched rifted in and attacked in several large groups, from several different directions and all converging on the center.   Once the attack commenced, the being called ‘The One’ called for the immediate surrender and execution of all biata, which he referred to as Getragen, calling them “vile betrayers.”   When mercy was cried for, he was heard to demand that the biata “stop this charade of innocence.”

The Ducal and Baronial forces were quick to rally to the aid of the commoners of Bloodstone, and were witness to the One rifting out while the battle against the Plane Touched wore on.

Moments later, the One returned with hundreds more Plane Touched, appearing behind the lines of the Ducal and Baronial soldiers.  Caught in a scissor of vicious elemental attacks, the Ashbans were forced to a hasty retreat and regroup during which time civilians were pulled out of their beds and slaughtered by the One.

The Ashban forces regrouped and renewed the attack with vigor.

As the battle raged the One, calling the battle “a frivolous exercise,” rifted out with the Plane Touched – and at least two Biata prisoners. Their fate is as of yet unknown.

The horde ranks seem to have swelled significantly over the winter and this last attack did little to trim that swell.

Vansir Halldorr Found Guilty of Arson

As if things in South Point were not chaotic enough, just as a band of goblins came to the city looking for their kidnapped bretheren, the home of Iskalda, apprentice to the Dragon Mage Zalinarik became engulfed in flames. Luckily nobody was inside at the time, and all items within the circle of power were safe.

At first it was believed to be the work of goblins, but the members of the ducal army present were not satisfied with this.

The investigative crew, which included Shenk, J’lanka, Aven scoured the scene and followed a set of tracks – which obviously did not belong to a goblin. In fact they knew exactly whose boots made the tracks, as the Vansir Halldorr had been bragging to them about his boots the previous day, giving them a rather close look. In addition the group found bits of the fur from Halldorr’s cloak caught on bushes along the trail.

They took this evidence to the Magistrate (he was a rather busy elf that day) who then approached Halldorr about the incident. Unfortunately the boots and cloak referred to were lost when Halldorr died in the explosion of the Vacarran pirate vessel.

The crime of arson within the Ash Forest carries a heavy penalty, but in light of Halldorr’s earlier sacrifice, he was fined 25 gold to rebuild the house and replace the alchemy lab that was lost inside.

Fighting Like Cats and Dogs

Amidst the pirate raids and attacks by giant vermin, the adventurers visiting South Point had some troubles among themselves. Semaj the fox karobwa resurrected on Saturday evening, with no memory of the encounter and all his belongings missing. He managed to sniff out his armor and sword, but his coin and other possessions remained unaccounted for.

Later that evening the gorbe Victor came to the wizard Iskalda with a magical item to identify. She recognized it immediately as the item she personally had given to Semaj.

Viktor claimed he found the item on a goblin, but would not return it to Semaj without being compensated for it. As the Magistrate Camthalion listened to more of the story, things started sounding fishy. Semaj had obviously been given an amnesia elixir… how many goblins do that?

The final strike was when Victor and his mate (who claimed she was with him all day) gave completely different stories of the incident in which they encountered the goblin from whom they claimed they had taken the item.

Semaj’s item was returned to him; Victor was found guilty of murder and executed.

Healer’s Guildmaster Suspended

Following reports of conduct unbecoming to a healer’s guild master, the Guildmaster of South Point was suspended from duties.

Multiple accounts of refusal to heal those in need were recorded, but one incident far outshined the rest. A report from the Ash Forest baronial army noted that the guildmaster refused to let Halldorr out of the circle after his resurrection. The guildmaster then had words with the Vansir Deegan over the incident, which lead Deegan to strike him down.

The baronial healer Renna quickly healed the guildmaster and had a very heated discussion with Deegan as well.

The guildmaster, perhaps realizing he was wrong, did not wish to file assault charges against Deegan.

Adventurers Fight Undead

While many adventurers were staying in South Point, a call went out from Captain Ariss of the Sea Urchin, a merchant vessel.  Captain  Ariss stated that her ship was missing, and recruited Ta’ak and Knut of the wolf tribe, Daniel Revere, Vitoly Kerensky, and Damien and Thermosis of No Code.

The headed for the docks only to find the ship offshore, with a crew that had been turned into undead. The adventurers were able to destroy the undead, but the necromancer apparently escaped.

Unfortunately, Ta’ak, Vitoly and Damien died in the attempt, but Damien shrugged it off, saying “Death is a part of what we do as adventurers.”

Blythedale Changes Baronial Colors

At the dawn of the New Year, Baron Indorian announced that the colors of Blythedale would be changing from green and white back to the original blue and white.

“Blue and white are the colors of the barony when it was first founded,” said His Excellency. “While the New Year means a time of change and to start anew, I have decided to start the year 606 by returning to the original colors of the barony but will keep the standard of the eagle and star with the new colors as well.  I will be keeping green and white as my personal colors.”

The tailors of Blythedale are currently working on new flags, banners, and tabards in the new colors of Blythedale.

Tolman Head Attacked

Late last Dolphin, and force of unknown undead attacked the peaceful farming community at Tolman Head.  It is know that Squire Tellis Veladon was present organizing the defense, but as of this writing the Elf’s whereabouts are unknown.

Baron Indorian Silverleaf is asking that any who have information regarding this vicious attack present themselves to him in Ashbury City.

Royal and Ducal Proclamations

The following announcements have recently been posted.

In past years, whenever a new Baron, Duke, Duchess or Baroness came to power, he or she would change the colors associated with that Barony.

This practice ends today.

From this day foward, the official colors and blazons of all duchies and baronies shall stand the same today and for all time.

In addition, all members of the peerage are to create their own blazon, which should differ from that of your liege. Each blazon is to be unique, and shall be registered with the Royal Seneschal. Adventuring groups who wish to register their blazon may also do so. No two individuals or groups may hold identical blazons, nor may any individual or group hold a blazon identical to that which is established by any barony, duchy, kingdom or other entity. Individuals not of the peerage may not register a personal blazon.

Let the law show that the following acts are to be considered crimes in the kingdom of Icenia:

1- Impersonating a noble by wearing a personal blazon or a white belt

2- Wearing the blazon of any court or army (baronial, ducal or royal) if you are not associated with that court.

This is our will.

King Gareth ap Moire and

Queen Sidraste Deannan

In agreement with the Royal decree, the colors of our fair duchy shall henceforth be known as:

Duchy of Ashbury: Gules and Argent

Barony of the Ash Forest: Vert and Tenne

Barony of Blythedale: Azure and Argent

Barony of Nordenn: Sable and Or

Barony of Trellheim: Sable and Gules

Duke Sir Frost Vardik

Any members of the peerage or adventuring groups who wish to register their blazon must do the following:

1- Submit a true and complete drawing of the blazon.

2- Submit a true and complete drawing of the tabard or baldric you wish to register

For teams and baronial courts

3- Submit a roster of all members who may wear the blazon, tabard or baldric.

A fee of 5 gold must be paid for each item you wish to register. For example, if you wish to register a team blazon and a tabard, the total fee is 10 gold.

I shall be in Ashbury City in the afternoon of the 22nd of Dragon. Any persons or groups who wish to register a blazon or submit a roster may do so at that time.

Dame Sonia Forthiatis

Royal Seneschal

Duke Sir Frost Vardik will be holding an open court on Saturday, April 22, 606 in the Dragon’s Flagon Tavern. This court will immediately follow the noble’s meeting that will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the same location.

Squire Trevor Donovan

Ducal Seneschal

Let it be known that on Saturday May 13th at 10:00 p.m., Duke Sir Frost Vardik will sponsor a formal ball. This ball will take place in the Dragon’s Flagon. The evening will include dancing, light refreshments, door prizes and most importantly good company and cheer. This shall be the event of the season.

All good and honorable folk are invited. You are requested to dress in your best and finest garb. Formal and proper behavior is also expected. Anyone not in compliance will be asked to leave the festivities.

Those of martial skill are asked to bring at most one weapon, properly sheathed at your belt, ie, dress weapons. Weapons too large to be sheathed on your belt and shields will need to be checked in before you may enter the ball.

Lady Knight Glorianna Wynddancer of Nordenn and Lady Daralassia Fairseer of the Ash Forest shall be hosting this grand event. Anyone wishing to help with preparations may contact either of them.

Squire Trevor Donovan

Ducal Seneschal

Let it be known that the adventurer Dan of the Wings of Polaris is to be tried for consorting with undead, and treason, on the 22nd day of the month of Dragon for giving information to the vile abomination Creepshow near the time of Halloween, 604.  If convicted of these crimes he faces four death sentences.

All witnesses are hereby ordered to give written testimony to Sheriff Sir Harrison Ryatt, Dockside or Ashbury City. If you cannot write, your words shall be taken down for you.   The identities of witnesses shall be kept confidential.

Healer’s Guild Report

The Ashbury Healers Guild is working harder than ever to serve the people of Ashbury. This Spring we will be implementing several new policies to aid the townspeople, such as breakfast. Yes, the Healers Guild will proudly be serving breakfast down in the Tavern on Saturday and Sunday Mornings. If you want to thank those who had healed you the night before, this is a great opportunity to match a face to the spell.

Secondly, the Healers Guild is changing its policy regarding the rooms protected by the Haven of the Living. Over the Fall, several adventurers used the comfort and security of the lodging space to great benefit. Now, the Guild, after careful consideration, is changing the policy from lodgers being required to aid and defend the Healers to a nominal fee of 1 silver per person per night. Also, the second room can be warded for additional security; however this will increase the price to 1 silver per night for as long as the ward is up.

In addition, the Healers Guild has been donating a large supply of potions, healing and other aids to the newer adventurers. We humbly ask and encourage those who have been aided by the Guild in the past to donate, so that the Guild may continue to serve the community.

At this time, I would like to reiterate a policy of the Guild. We of the Guild do not obligate our general membership to choose or cast their spells in any way. Only high ranking members are obligated to spend a portion of their spells to aid the town freely. We have always felt that a Healer’s spells are their own, to use as they see fit. It is sometimes the general feeling that Healers are just walking Healing Homunculi; this is far from the truth. We urge the community to justly compensate your healers for the effort they tirelessly give to the community. May I suggest a large tip after breakfast?

The Healers Guild is working closely with the Dragon’s Flagon and encourages adventurers to help serve the evening meals. Not only is this a great opportunity to earn some extra money, but diligent service can also earn you a place on the wonderful Wall of Fame!

Also, for several years, we of the Guild have worked to make the unfortunate resurrections of the people as easy and painless as possible. Our membership is deeply saddened by some of the stories we hear about what happened in South Point, and in order that such events will never occur here, we, your Guild, will be sending out members to collect information from you about how you would like to return. Each night some of our membership will seek out the groups and individuals in Ashbury, so that we might be prepared to receive your spirit in the way you want it. Primarily they will be looking for information regarding who you would like to resurrect your spirit, and what kind of story would best bring you back. Additionally, the Guild will be training its membership in proper resurrection techniques appropriate for each race, as well as making sure that its membership is well acquainted with your personal Resurrection needs.

The Healers Guild also is also proud to announce our first Grand Auction. Sunday Morning, on the 23rd of April, after breakfast (11 a.m.) at the Healers Guild, we will be auctioning off a number of items, including a large suit of Arcane Armor. We encourage the people to come and barter with stuff, rather than just coin. Ask a member of the Guild for more details.

Finally, our Guild also has many regular services for the town. We have a great many potions to sell to the town at large, as well as Spell Ink, and can teach lessons in many topics as well as Earth Magic. We also have some of the highest ranking Earth Formal Casters as members, so please come to the Guild for your ritual needs. Our services are confidential and reasonably priced. Our Guild hours are generally at night and afternoons, but there is usually a member in the Building at just about any time. Assistant Guild Leader Lauroc DerWyrvenhaus also sleeps in the Guild Hall, to ensure that there is always a healer to go to at the Guild. Don’t hesitate to wake him up to help in an emergency.

There will be a general Healers guild meeting on Saturday afternoon, April 22, at 2 p.m. We will be going over a few topics, so the meeting will not be long, but it will cover much of the information the Guild is gathering about resurrections, so it will be necessary to be there for all of it. Please be prompt.

At 3 p.m. we will be holding interviews for those who wish to join or work with the Guild. We are not just healers, but alchemists, protectors of the weak, and others who work to promote peace and equality between the races.

In other topics, the Guild is currently looking for Regeneration, Controlled Spirit Store, Investiture and Preserve Scrolls and Catalysts. Our Guild has a large variety of things to trade for these items.

Lauroc DerWyrvenhaus

Assistant Guild Leader

Letters

This is a letter regarding Sue D’Onym’s article in the January/February edition of the Ashbury Times. She “reports” that Lord Du’Gaul was more concerned about safeguarding his treasury than fighting the undead that were attacking Ashbury. Being well aware as I am that Sue D’Onym’s “journalism” is nothing more than rumors twisted to put the well known people of Ashbury into a poor light, I am generally content to merely ignore her sidelong jabs and malicious innuendo when directed at me and those I call friends. However, in this case, I feel the need to set the matter straight.

The goods that Lord Du’Gaul was so adamant about not abandoning consisted primarily of the collected library of the Sage’s Guild. After creating a Planar Gate to facilitate the evacuation of Ashbury’s adventurers from the Abysal Gorge, I hastened to the Sage’s Guildhall to take the contents of its library with us, but I was unable to lift the heavy chest of books. In a moment where passion far exceeded common sense, I refused to abandon the tomes of learning to the hands of Mishmash and his undead. Lord Du’Gaul was not content to allow me to be killed by the undead and rather than carry me out bodily he mollified me by swearing to carry out the chest of books and safeguard them until I was able to collect them on the other side of the Gate.

Lord Du’Gaul reached the safety of the Healer’s Guild well before I did, and upheld his word to keep the books safe. When it was clear that he was desperately needed on the battlefield, he still held to his oath and made sure to secure a trustworthy guard, appointed by Dame Glorianna, before joining the battle.

Again, I do not expect the style or the content of the articles of Sue D’Onymn to change at all, but I could not stand by while she insulted the honor of Lord Du’Gaul and his dedication to defend Ashbury when the only thing that kept him from the field was his oath to me. I thank him and Dame Glorianna, as well as the guard she assigned, for so steadfastly guarding the tomes of the Sage’s Guild.

Cedric Fruvous

Guildmaster, Ashbury Sage’s Guild

To all my friends of Ashbury,

I have been away for two years. Traveling through the mists, opening up new business ventures, and taking care of a few bad guys along the way. I have been away for 2 years, and much has changed...and not for the better. I have heard things regarding people that I have once called friends, treasures stolen, trusts betrayed, and some of the biggest trash talking I have ever heard. Most of this was “swept under the rug”, a blind eye turned and forgotten about. Situations were taken advantage that cannot be ignored any longer.

I am coming back. Coming back to Ashbury wearing the Mud and Blood colors proudly. Coming back to fix my house and settle back in Ashbury. Things were done that I cannot ignore any longer. Retribution will be served to those that have wronged me and my family.

I am coming back....very soon.

Luigie

Black Forest

To all Ashbans:

For several months now, I have been travelling among my people. There are many who have gathered to behold the coming salvation of our culture. This arduous journey of three hundred years will end in your lands.

I must express regret and remorse for any misfortune that may come in our wake. We mean no harm, but as you know, harm means us with or without our consent. I have been trying to keep my people in the outlying areas, away from the more populated regions. We know that it is small consolation, but it must be this way. I cannot face these challenges alone. I need my brethren by my side at the time of reckoning.

I must take this time to thank you all for everything you have sacrificed, and will sacrifice in the coming days. You have made the cause of my people your own. For that, we will be eternally grateful, regardless of the outcome. We are born of this curse, and we have resigned ourselves to die with it if necessary. To have the chance to change that has been the brightest moment in our recent history. I know not what will happen. I know only what has happened so far. I thank those who have made it possible.

With respect,

Guard Daedric Kregst’yan
