April 21st One Day Feedback

Thank you all so much for coming out to our April 1st One day.
We look forward to hearing what you loved and didn't love about the event.
We want to hear your suggestions on how we can improve.
We also want to hear about the highlights of your event.

I'll be brave and kick things off. :)

Loved About the Event: (1) more emphasis on plot. I mean obviously there was some hardcore combat in there but the fact that we literally had to go and investigate and interact with anything we could find, where not everything was specifically marked out as relevant to the mod, just made it much more interesting. My character actually had to think, not just rush headlong into
(2) the amount of resources that went into setting up this mod. The blood, the bodies, the houses, the broad variety of evidence (including the very last letter in particular). It was super impressive, and my hat's off to Plot and NPCs for pulling it off.
(3) added to that, there were two "sidequests" that made the investigation feel much broader and less scripted. Things weren't as cut-and-dry as most of us thought, and it was interesting to finally piece together what was going on.

Didn't Love About the Event: (1) so much walking! Don't get me wrong, it was the nature of the mod and I totally get that, and it's also definitely on me to have worn some trekking-appropriate footwear, but man was that getting rough near the end.
(2) communication was a bit muddled amongst the PCs, at least from my perspective. The impression I got off the whole day was that the knights and ex-nobles were going to do the actual investigation and focus on that; and everyone else had come along because there were things that needed to be killed, and beyond that people weren't particularly concerned with the in-story crimes and investigation. When the aforementioned knights and ex-nobles were trying to rally everyone to get opinions, share information, or direct us where to go, it seemed like not everyone was listening and it got more than a bit frustrating to not have everyone on the same page when they were trying to do so.

Mentioning in passing that I apparently can no longer be in the sun for more than six hours at a time, which is not the fault of Plot Committee. I could tell I was winding down but I thought it was just having fallen down so often that I was getting winded, but by the time we got to the elemental battle I was coughing and having so much trouble breathing that I literally told an NPC to kill me and displace me quickly before anyone could save me. I'll be making a point to get super heavy duty sunscreen and am also going to make some costume adjustments to compensate. In the meantime, if I started to get really stupid or rude or snapped at anyone near the end of the one-day, I am really really sorry. Pretty much guaranteed you didn't do anything.

Suggestions: (1) I have no suggestions for Plot. My suggestion to mostly myself and other PCs that were getting dehydrated, is that we should carry water with us. (A few did.) In-game we were at the conclusion of a 5-day trek so we "should have" had some with us anyway. I suppose if I turned this into a suggestion for Plot, it would be "let us know ahead of time that we are doing a lot of walking," but Chris already touched on that (on a Facebook post) and he hadn't realised just how expansive the walking part was going to be. So, no worries Chris. ^_^

Highlights: (1) OOG - getting knocked below 0 Body while running down a hill, and my momentum making me roll two or three times before my dead body actually stopped. Kudos to the NPC that did that - kudos to the NPCs in general because you never stopped all day long!
(2) IG - Ilarion's wondrous discovery of Aunt Cyn's Circle of Power ring because that s*** is way beyond his pay grade. He was happy to assist (and taunt the Greendead that couldn't get in).

Looking forward to two weeks' time when I get to spend a whole weekend with you all, and rest assured I'll be better prepared for both the weather and the inventory problems I was having the whole time :D

I loved the aspect of walking around the camp and finding buildings, bodies and clues. The props in the woods were great. I just felt that it was TOO much walking. Some of it seemed extremely pointless. By the end of the day, I was burnt out and didn't want to participate because my feet were numb. I felt the "lunch break" was long enough and the sandwich idea again is great. Quick and easy. The props were amazing. I mean...invisible ink...you win, that's amazing!

My only complaint other than the excessive walking was when we went to fight the bandits, there was a pile of weapons, a sheild and a trunk. We were told everything was in game..then Chris said this is just a pile of NPC stuff which was later used for the Orc fight. It ruined the game a bit for me because Pebbles was sneaking around to investigate the pile only to be told it was nothing.

As far as the props and the plot lines of the event..great job sirs!!! And Thank you NPC's!!!!

I haven't written feedback as an NPC before but you know radical freedom or whatever
I had a great time this event. A really big shoutout to Aram and Leslie for giving me a ride, real mvps. While it was tedious to be the same monster the whole event, I kinda liked it because it meant less cards to memorize lol. I was never bored and only kinda tired at the end. I really liked the sandwiches, that was the best turkey I've ever had. I enjoyed playing the bandit leader, sorry I'm a mess and can't not laugh. I'm working on it. Also really sorry for that accent, I really wasn't going to use an accent, but then Louis stared doing one so I felt like I should do one but I can only do bad country ones so RIP. I had a good time at afters. Thanks for letting me sleep in your basement Matt. And breakfast the morning after was really good too. I really like getting to know people out of game. I think I really important part of this whole thing to me is about being able to form a community. We do something that is really special; we explore and create a different world together. That is crazy cool. Thank you for being in my life.(sorry that got sappy) (Side note East Lansing people, let's hang out. I'm going to be very lonely this summer lol)
I think everyone should NPC. I was really hesitant to at first because I'm kinda really terrible at fighting with everything that isn't long bow-short sword and really struggle to keep a straight face roleplaying. 2/10 not good at things. But NPCing is a way to get good at things. And it's surprisingly fun. Like I'm really sore and still can't really walk up stairs without wanting to cry two days later, but really that's because I'm a potato. It's really a nice change in pace to not worry about if you're going to die. Just do it. Seriously.

Also really sorry for that accent, I really wasn't going to use an accent, but then Louis stared doing one so I felt like I should do one but I can only do bad country ones so RIP.

I thought your accent was fantastic. I was making a joke about it in game. But, I didn't mean to discourage you from it. Accents are hard. I'm very bad at them. I tried to have Matthew have a more nasally sounding voice. But, I kept slipping out of it. We should do more accents. It makes the game better.

Kierra, the accent was great and I loved that you tried to convince those of us keeping you from running that we're all murder hobos here and maybe we can all let bygones be bygones. Moonless knights is training you to be the best bandit queen in town, don't stop!
Also I will collect my thoughts and post later today.

I loved that this event was all one huge mod. The change of pace was great and made things interesting, including a few bathroom breaks when we still had to deal with NPC’s. I like that we had to be very strategic with healing and our resources and when to refit armor.

I loved the walking and was SO EXCITED to check my Fitbit at the end of the day and see how many steps I had. But I don’t spend a ton of time outside and that combined with the walking wiped me out. I was ready for a nap around 4 PM.

I had trouble keeping up with the story line and the mystery we were trying to solve. I felt like the greendead kept everyone who wasn’t investigating very busy. So by the time I was able to catch up on the investigation there was too much info for me to process so I was no help.

Shout out to the NPC’s who were there setting up early. All of the props and sites were AMAZING. Thank you so much for your hard work.

What a one day! This event was like no other Larp event I have ever been to and I loved it!

Good-
- This event let us spend our time not only fighting to help the people of Dragonreach but let us solve a mystery. This was fun and different ! The plot team has been saying this year will be different and this proved it in the best ways possible!
- having a dedicated npc plot member was GREAT all day. This made questions in and out of game very easy and seamless to get answers to. There was no running to get a ploy member, a very nice thing!
-the world felt soooo Immersive! Everything was in game so we never were really out of game to even travel! This lead to I think a lot more talk in character and connections.
- Lunch was again yummy!
- the props and crime scenes were top notch! Never before have I seen an event that had full set ups we could revisit through out the day and the use of the actual “bodies” we could interact with was a step above and beyond!
- the roaming continuous green dead was an immersive step I loved and helped make it all so real.
- the added bandits and orc “side “ plots that all fit was perfectly done!
- the elemental effects were great looking forward to more!
- a wonderfully neutral Squire friend !

Not as good stuff-
- sometimes I was a tad confused wheee exactly we were comparatively but I am also very bad at directions !
- there was a disconnect at the huge sit down and figure out the killer at the porch- people were uninterested and I do not get why. Maybe it was harder to follow when also fighting ? It made me a tad frustrated but also understood.

So I am not complaining about the walking just commenting -I am way out of shape lol I i need to work out more and carry water !

A fun and unique one day- thank you plot!!

YIS,
Annette

I had fun stabbing you all but you know, I AM a monster (GET IT!?!?!?!?!) I liked the constant movement, it was a nice change of pace. The event seemed like something I would have really enjoyed if I was PC'ing. I had a blast hanging with the other NPC's (except Ian, Ian is the worst). Aram's love for his bandit hat was awesome.

Thank you to you plot dudes for working so hard and for the PC's receiving our constant stabbing.

My vote doesn't count but I did want to throw in some thoughts here also from a "monster" perspective. These are just my own thoughts.

I felt this was a really fun event. I'm impressed we were at 28 people for a one day. It was great!

With all the volunteers for NPCing the land infested by the Green Dead could have a real swarming feel. I was impressed by the immersion I was able to witness inside of all that combat. With only a few moments here and there people really stayed in game. The pressure felt tangible and real.

I did notice that when things died down and it was time to really sort out the mystery the fighters of the group tasked with protection got bored. Perfectly fine unless we go out of game when we do. I was guilty of that a bit too. It was mostly at the end when we were all getting tired, and it happens often on puzzle/combat mods. So it all made sense but we should all try more to stay in game whenever we can (again, also talking to myself).

One thing that really impressed me was how the community self marshaled things like lasting pin effects, damage counting, and so on. While some inevitable nasty hits snuck through fighting was safe and fun.

While there were a number of times that the group pulled apart you really held together in the truly clutch moments. During the Green Dead surges I was bursting with pride as players moved easily with each other and focus fired monsters in order to kill all the momentum of the strange creatures.

I'm very appreciative of our community for letting us try and adapt new things with our one day events while still forwarding the plot of the chapter. This one was Chris's thought child and I think it was a great one.

Just a few combat kudos:

Robert: you are improving both in throwing and rogue-style fighting, well done.

Cressida: your aim is improving, if I didn't know what packet hit me I felt safe in assuming it was 5 flame

Halfdan: when you first started with us your offhand block wasn't much, I saw you reflexively snagging hits from me multiple times with your left, excellent improvement.

Collette: you seem to have really settled into your character. You seemed really in game, in character, and it all seemed so natural. We put the pressure on and regardless of who was around you were really top notch.

Scarlet: while your spell incants need refining your aim and power with your packets is greatly improved. If you are practicing at home keep doing what you are doing, it's working.

Again from this simple monster thank you for a great time, and thank all of you very much in helping us clean up our huge mess!

This event was certainly a different one, and while that isn't a bad thing, there is definitely some growing pains to the change from the typical events.
Things I liked:
The scale of the event was amazing! I loved wandering around and having things be where they were and what they were. Aside from one or two times where it wasn't really needed in the first place, I didn't feel like I had to "CO" something to figure it out and that is always a testament to the hard work of the plot team and NPCs.
there was plenty of fighting to do, with pretty handle-able cards if we worked together, but there was a downside to that that I will talk about later. Having an NPC to escort always puts me on edge as the defender of the group, trying to balance using stuff to protect Matthew vs keeping Lukas from killing himself was an interesting point for me as a player.
I have the unpopular opinion that I actually like that the Laws in game are an actual thing, and though they are certainly strict we've managed to stay out of that for the most part. I'm going to keep off of my finalized opinions on the laws until a player gets slapped with a punishment more than "Keep doing what you're doing" for the time being.
Things that could be improved:
With how spread out the event was, I think it would have been nice to know we would be returning to that segment of woods for the "Mod area" as a way to bring water to have then. I have mentioned that and they made a valid point that I should bring water with me, and will try to do that in the future.
The positive and negative of the constant fighting was that I and a solid chunk of town didn't really get to participate in the investigation, to the point that all I know is the guy that got elected was the murderer, but also wasn't that guy? The point being the nature of something like that was that certain people who started the investigation would be the only people who would know about it the whole time. We never had enough time between fights to fill in everyone who had to protect the people who were investigating. It also lead to those of us who were fighting the whole time to feel like we accomplished nothing, being that we didn't confront the guy and he was elected mayor anyway. now after the post went up, it was clarified to me that Matthew still has all the proof and most likely wanted to confront him in person, so its still "being handled" but I feel like a "thank you I can take it from here" from Matthew could have been very helpful in that treasure split time at the end.

All in all, I really did enjoy the event and would love to see more like this in the future!

I thought this event was a lot of fun!

There was a lot of walking, but hey, I need the exercise so I am not going to complain.

I loved the plot of this event and I thought everyone did a great job with the houses and props within. And though combat is always a lot of fun, it isn't the whole game for me, but this time around there was no shortage of it!

And Travis, I appreciate the compliment! : ) Thank you! I learned a lot from you guys so far.
