This Week in Aer'Astria

((OOG: To get the hype going, we’ve got some little notes about things that have been taking place in Skerra’s Bastion the last few weeks. Feel free to engage with these as you like, but they are official and IG. We’ll be dropping more of them as we approach the game and probably for games to come as well.))

Skerra’s Bastion is abuzz this week with rumours that several Valenzian golems have gone missing. According to rumour, the golems went missing on March 12th early in the morning. There were no reports of suspicious activity in the area, other than the usual Tainted and Undead forces. The golems were kept in a secret location, and were checked on twice daily. Individuals with information about the location of these golems are asked to report their knowledge to General Liam or another head of camp as soon as possible.

This week, Skerra’s Bastion has been readying for an assault on the Necropolis. In a desperate attempt to retrieve Ser Hivius, forces from each camp sent in waves to distract the undead, while those few adventurers still remaining took a side route in to try and recover the lost leader. The battle was hard-fought, but the undead outnumbered the combined forces and a retreat was eventually called. The adventurers returned unsuccessful but not disheartened. If nothing else, many undead were slain.

((OOG: If you would like to have taken part in this assault, you may have done so. This is not a downtime action, nor will there be an additional write-up beyond this.))

This week, Skerra’s Bastion is a-twitter with preparation for the coming gather. As adventurers convene and reconvene, coming from far and wide to join the battle, rumours abound of dark things creeping on the horizons. Undead activity has been down since last gather, which has been making everyone uneasy. Is something big looming? What are our enemies planning?

News out of Ashburton is somewhat surprising. Undead recently invaded and destroyed the permanent Earth Circle of the capitol city. They came in the dead of night, and left just as fast, touching nothing else in their path. The only casualties were those of the guards who happened to see the small strike force. The story has been causing concern amongst the citizens of Sedovia. What was the purpose of that strike? And who is next?

News from Siofra! The nearly year-long talks between the Savage Land Chaki’vok and the families that made oath to the Siofran elves have broken down. The primal humans of Siofra have declined to make oath upon the ring at the waters of the largest waterfall there. These humans state that they cannot break one oath to make another. As many folk of Aer’Astra may know, the Chaki’vok who have sworn on the ring have sprouted rocky or bone like spurs from their head, and reports are that this is passed down to their offspring as well. It appears that while they share a common ancestry, this is the final split between their people. Scholars posit that this momentous occasion can be likened to the various splits between the elves in antiquity, and that the Chaki’vok and Siofran tribes are now distinct people.

((OOG: Better late than never!))

This week in Aer’Astria, Skerra’s Bastion is abuzz with rumours that seem to suggest unsettling activity between the Undead and the Tainted. A few of the deeper patrols have heard yelling matches between powerful Undead and the Tainted forces. No one has reported anything coming to blows yet, but the hope is that it’s only a matter of time before things go horribly wrong between them.

An announcement today out of the Wylenzian camp. Schpode has declared that the Tainted are no longer enemies of the Wylenzian camp. The rest of the camps were atwitter when the news broke, and rumours have been spreading like wildfire. Had the Insofu authorized this, or was he in the dark? Did this mean that the war with the Undead was at risk? Had Schpode taken a lover from amongst the Tainted community??

As the rumours got wilder and wilder, the other heads of camp tried to quash them. In statements made to the three camps, the heads announced that they recognized Wylenzia’s authority to declare their own allies in this fight, but that they would not honour any stand-down of hostilities between the Tainted and the other camps at this time.

With tensions running high, the camps can only hope to try and preserve the fragile cooperation they’ve been maintaining.

The forward forces of Aer’Astria have broken camp today, in preparation to move their base temporarily deeper into the Auros mountains. Following a map prepared by Ser Hivius, the forces are moving towards the rumoured location of the Talon of Desecration’s sister’s prison. No one is sure what they might find.

Rumours today out of Valenzia that Archmagus Zalim is considering changing the Caste system. The rumour suggests that the Castes will now become more fluid, allowing for one to increase their Caste if they do things to further Valenzia’s causes, and decreasing of Caste as punishment for heinous crimes. No official announcement has yet been made of this becoming a policy, but unnamed sources close to Archmagus Zalim suggest he is considering such a move. Hopefully, we’ll know more soon.

Troops have arrived at the location indicated by Ser Hivius today and have begun construction of some rudimentary barracks to house the population. Despite the advantage of some ruins left over from ancient times in the area, building is slow-going because of all the undead in the area. Attacks have been made against the camp numerous times, but have been repelled at every opportunity, fortunately, thanks to the combined efforts of the four nations. But injuries are rapidly becoming more serious, and without an Earth Circle prepared, the four nations are starting to get worried.

This week in Skerra’s Bastion, unsuccessful groups of scouts have been returning from the Necropolis - some by foot, others through the circle. Although everyone recognized the plan of sneaking into the Necropolis to drop a circle and get out unseen was going to be hard from the get-go, each scouting party returning in failure has left a tangible impression on morale. The collected troops are trying to keep up appearances, but it’s clear that they are losing hope of ever being successful.

Skerra’s Bastion is buzzing this week with rumours that a scouting party has come back successful from the Necropolis. No one has been able to say which team, only that they’ve heard that someone managed to do it. Excitement that the plan may have finally worked is bolstering morale and giving much-needed hope ahead of a very dangerous mission into the heart of the Necropolis.

A new mountain has formed in the Auros mountains. It was said to have appeared overnight by those who were nearby. Those near Skerra’s Bastion and as far away as Foxbridge felt groundquakes all night the night before it arrived. No one is quite sure what happened, but Sedovia is mounting joint expedition teams with the other nations to go explore the area and report back. The mountain is said to be located near the site of the old Necropolis, by those in the know, although no one has confirmed its exact location yet.

(OOG: Long one this week. Enjoy!)

The nations are abuzz this week after a proclamation from King Scott Lancaster of Sedovia. The King has announced that he will be opening embassies in Foxbridge and is extending official welcomes to all nations who wish to join. In the spirit of the cooperation that has brought about the end of the undead plague, the King has invited all nations to continue that work in a town that is as centrally located as possible. Even the smaller nations are welcomed to attend, and should be expecting invitations shortly. Any who wish to join will find a place at the table of peace and prosperity.

In local news, residents of Foxbridge were stunned earlier this week when the entity known as the Disease (formerly the Talon of) walked into the tavern in the company of what appeared to be undead form of Militia Leader Killian. The two sat down, split a couple of beers - most of which ended up on the floor, given their skeletal forms - talked for a bit and left. The two members of the Adventurer’s Guild who attempted to approach them, weapons drawn, and free Killian were warned off by some narrowly-avoided dragon magic. The two left together, and haven’t been seen since.

Astrologers, seers, and the Selunari around Aer’Astria are rejoicing. They have proclaimed that the new Celestial Dragon has been born! Although nothing else is known about this young creature, they all agree that the stars have spoken to them of this great event. The people in Aer’Astria wait with baited breath to see if this new dragon will make an appearance soon, or if it will remain hidden for a while yet.

Expedition teams are reporting back from the Auros Mountains on the new mountain that has formed there. It stands much higher than any of the surrounding peaks, and is quite steep. Once you get about half-way up, it becomes virtually unscalable for those without wings. Attempts to climb it have all returned defeated, but safe. Explorations near the base of the mountain reveal that its location is indeed directly above the Necropolis. Although several have tried, no one has managed to find a way into the heart of the mountain yet. It is speculated that there is no access inside, as there have yet been no caves found in the mountain’s face.

((Sorry about the delay. Most of us were at BroS!))

Joyous news throughout Aer’Astria tonight! The heads of Foxbridge and the embassies gathering there have announced a potluck to take place in 3 weeks time. There shall be a grand feast to celebrate the official opening of the embassies, the commitment of the nations of Aer’Astria to peace, and the defeat of the undead. The heads of the new embassies will be presented to the public at this time, and it should be quite the event. It is rumoured that feasts will be taking place across Aer’Astria on the same day to commemorate the event. Truly, it seems we are entering a new age of diplomacy in Aer’Astria!

(Check the OOG forums for more information on the potluck!)

Two weeks before the feasting is to take place to commemorate the opening of Foxbridge as a diplomatic hub, and people are whispering in dark corners with concern. Few have seen a Tainted creature in some time. Although they aren’t the most social of people, it’s rare for them to disappear from sight. And yet, that appears to be what they’ve done. Those in the know are also concerned about the absence of Void creatures in all forms as well. Could this be good news? Or are they planning something?

One week to go before the opening feasts, and the embassy construction is nearing completion. Although there have been a number of minor setbacks, it appears that construction of the embassies will finish on schedule, much to the relief of all involved. Foxbridge, previously a sleepy research town, is preparing for its role as a bustling hub of diplomacy and peace in a thoughtful and meaningful way. The townsfolk who survived the undead incursion seem content to be building something happy for a change, and appear ready to serve the peace of the nations to the best of their abilities.

A missive was released from Baron Hivius’ office this morning. It reads:

Foxbridge locals, visitors and ambassadors,

Many of us will be separated from our families this New Year’s as we perform our noble duties in the names of our leaders. In an effort to make this separation less painful for us all, I would like to invite you all to come participate in a celebration of the new year on December 14th at 4:00 in the afternoon. This celebration, inspired by Lavina’s work in bringing our cultures together to share amongst each other, will have time and place for each culture to share what makes their celebrations special with everyone gathered.

We anticipate food, drink and merriment, as well as solemn reflection on the year that has been and the year to come. If you have something particular you would like to do or see as part of this celebration, please feel free to contact myself or Theah and we will ensure you have time for your piece. We do ask that you keep your time relatively short, as many will have a desire to participate and we wish to have time for all.

Thank you for your participation and your openness to these festivities.

Ambassador Baron Ser Hivius Trei of Sedovia

((OOG: Yeah! It’s another party! There will be some food, but it's not a potluck unless there's something you'd like to share. If you’re native to Aer’Astria and have already spread some information about what your year-end parties look like, please email plot@allianceoregon.com by FRIDAY with those details so we can be consistent with you. If you are native to Aer’Astria and would like to know what your parties would look like, please also email plot by Friday and we’ll get those details to you ASAP so you’re in the know. If you would like to participate with something from your character’s culture, please feel free to email plot and we’ll put you on the schedule. More details will become available as the planning gets more concrete. Thanks so much!))

The locals are abuzz this week after Luzula gave some insight into her community’s planned contribution to the New Year’s festivities. Luzula has announced that there will be a memorial ceremony for Mandara Bola and all other loved ones who have been lost. She encourages people to bring things that remind them of the person or persons they have lost, and if people would like to share words or names, they are welcomed to do that as well during this time. Although it is tradition in her village to honour the fallen of the last year in particular, people are always welcomed to mourn any past losses they’ve suffered.

((OOG: Sorry, i was sick all weekend and this was the first chance I had to post it!))
