Traverse City 2020 Season Teaser

As the new year of 1020 dawns, the lands and areas that make up The Forgotten Lands are in shambles.

With the death of the Emperor and the Council, the Elorian Empire is now in a state of open civil war between the remaining nobles for the reins of the power. As Lord Sunseeker is the last remaining member of the Council, many hope that he can come forward as the new emperor. But, even with that support, he will have a significant fight ahead of him.

Nu'Adah was already wracked by starvation and disease during the war, but the occupying forces from the Empire's army which took over the city have seceded from the floundering Empire and are attempting to create their own country with an iron fist. There are rumors that some members of the royal house escaped during the invasion and are trying to organize a resistance.

Roefield was greatly reduced by sieging armies and dragon's fire, but the loss of King Clause has sent them into a tailspin. The peers among the ruling class have divided the already shattered land into smaller fiefs and have closed ranks against those outside their number.

The lands in and around The Heartwood are, thus far, the least effected by the aftermath of the previous year. But, it is obvious that the magical energy which normally saturates the area is greatly weakened. The inhabitants have also noticed that the fantastical creatures that make the forests their home are now rarely seen.

Ardic has been closed down, and adventurers are not currently welcome to camp there. It seems that many people blame the adventuring community for the current difficulties. Even as you travel through the various towns and cities, you see looks of anger and concern on the faces of the townspeople.

Many of the powerful creatures known to the adventurers and those great beings that are friends to the town are nowhere to be found. Missives are not answered, Whispering Winds do not find willing minds, and traveling to their residences provide no leads to where they are or what happened.

Traveling by portal has become impossible. Bringing a key to a portal causes it to flicker for just an instant, but it seems the power that sustains each of them is not currently active. Other resources and spells that require the ley lines to work are barely functioning, at best.

The Mists have also begun to intrude back upon the areas of land that it was recently banished from. Those who travel the Mist notice that the paths that they once knew twist and turn in new and confusing ways and that they often end up in a completely different place than expected when they exit. Some travelers report seeing faint blue lights flickering in the distance while engulfed by the Mists.

With the strife in all of the inhabited areas, the Mist consuming the areas in between, the lack of food and safety, and the general hopelessness, many of the common folk have fled into the Mists seeking either a new life or the release of death. As with any war, the ones that suffer most are those without power.

Of those who braved the Mists, very few have returned. Those that have bring back rumors of dangerous creatures and lush lands filled with resources, which had not been found previously. Could these hidden pockets be the hope needed in this trying time?
