Stuff you want, but can't find

Ahah! What's that you say? Can't draw your weapon in time to block that incoming halberd! Not anymore! New and improved boffer frogs, with snaps and a big darn pull flap so you can free your weapon in a jiffy! Yeah, I ran into this problem last weekend. I'm prototyping a couple of different...

Stuff you want, but can't find

S.M. Stirling wrote a couple of good trilogies on roughly that premise. What if, for no readily apparent reason, all electronical and high energy chemical systems stopped working, but everything else stayed pretty much the same? Answer? Apparently the SCA would switch out their sticks for swords...

    Thin Weapon Construction

Shenanigans, on the grounds that a club padded with open cell foam along it's length is a sword with extra padding, therefor conferring no extraordinary advantage nor creating any safety risk. As it is no more dangerous nor clearly superior to an equivalent sword type boffer, I say make it and...

    Pole weapon construction?

I am fully aware that, in single combat under the Alliance and Amtgard ruleset a spear is not terribly effective in single combat. I believe that is an artifact of the ruleset rather than a reflection of real life. Spears are considerably more effective under Belegarth rules, where a player can...

    Thin Weapon Construction

Inquiry: Would thin camp pad style closed cell foam overlayed with open cell foam to bring it up to the 5/8" mark fly?

    Leather armor

La! I would suggest getting a leopard print cotton body suit and adding a leather scale breastplate over that. You could cut the scales to resemble feathers or leopard roesettes, depending on whether you were going for Eagle Warrior or Jaguar Knight. Throw in a really cool animal headpiece...

    Graphite Golf Clubs

I like the camp foam idea. you could cut individual washers/burrs/gaskets and stack them up until you have the right length. Then you could layer 5/8s inch flat foam on them to make a shaped core!

Stuff you want, but can't find

Larping is a wonderful way to learn skills you didn't know you didn't know. I swear, we're going to be the only one's left after the apocalypse, sitting pretty brewing beer, making AK-47s out of duct tape and rocks, and making everyone else refer to us by our noble titles just because we can.

    Pole weapon construction?

True. However, the historical styles used to fight with a sixty eight inch pole axe involved two hands widely spaced along the shaft and a lot of stabbing with the butt cap, sweeps, trips, joint locks, and general good fun. If I had an eight foot spear I could comfortably put two hands on it...

    L4D - Survival Pack

It is quite awesome. Pro-Tip? Witches apparently got a boost to their spot checks, they seem to be a lot easier to spook now.

    Costuming

Hrm... You know, I think I could put the piece that actually holds the boffer on an articulated rotating rivet and add a couple of snaps to secure it, so that you could, at your discretion, wear it as a horizontal, angled, or vertical frog... *tinker tinker tinker*

    Pole weapon construction?

Next revision, you guys should take a look at putting the max pole length up to 8-9 feet. I'd think the way to take out a sword and board with a pike would be to attack constantly and agressively, with lots of feints. Make them work that shield, and keep them too busy to use the sword. dunno...

Islamic Men's Dress looks surprisingly neat

http://www.alhannah.com/mensclothing.html Seriously, want. I've always vaugely liked the idea of men's gowns, from the long, flowing tunics to the gowns of scholars and doctors. Pretty much anything on that list I would be happy to throw on, cinch up with my sword belt, and go hitting things...

    The twenty dollar A-frame tent

I should note that I'm using mildly water resistant canvas drop cloth rather than plastic tarp. I've got an eight-10' length of 1.5" wooden dowel. I suppose I'll try that for the ridge pole.

    Pole weapon construction?

Yeah, did that, realized i could still feel the thing, cut it out, trimmed it, and put it back in. Nothing quite like doing invasive surgery on a spear.

    Pole weapon construction?

I got it worked out eventually. I just ended up with a much more modest glaive than I'd intended. Okay, here's another question. I want to stick a leather disc under the stabby tip to prevent punch through or at least limint it. . Yay? nay?
