A Message Through the Mists

Ehvarion

Newbie
Hail friends of Sedovia. I am Edarius and I am a human hailing from the Savage Lands. I am on the road to Foxbridge with not but the clothes on my back.

My home in the Savage Lands was destroyed by some powerful warrior clad in obsidian armor whilst bearing a crimson blade. I will never forget the feeling of his fingers around my throat as he hoisted me into the air like I was a mere sack of grain preared to extinguish my life with a death spell I'm sure he believed to be a gift. I would not have survived were it not for a timely rescue by a dwarf and dark elf by the names of Yorig and Evyrid. My story is not one to be fully shared at this time, however, as I have more pressing matters to discuss.

As I draw closer to Foxbridge I hear ever grimmer tidings. I hear of necromancer and hordes of undead laying siege to the town under the leadership of a vampire capable of turning friends into undead servants, minds commanded to assault their former comrades. The closer I get to Foxbridge the more I fear I will arrive to a smoldering ruin not much different than the village I once called home.

I hope to hear good tidings, and should Foxbridge remain a standing against the assaults of the undead I will gladly lend my sword to its defense.

Edarius,

You'll be happy to learn that that particular undead scourge and the vampire leading them have been vanquished, and Foxbridge remains standing. Not that that should necessarily stop you from coming. Whether you seek problems in need of solving, or potential allies to hear of the source of your village's end, you'll almost certainly find both in Foxbridge.

A word of advice, though: Do not allow yourself to be led by someone you have not previously met. A stranger truly in need of help can contract you through the Adventurer's Guild, who could vouch for their identity rather than leaving you at risk of being led into an ambush.

Well met Ardryk. It is relieving to hear good news in these dark times. I ran into a lad of the radiant conclave, Wilhelm I believe he said his name was. He mentioned your name though I cannot recall the context well due to my beleagured state upond our meeting. I believe he said you were a biata and that you could be trusted. I can only hope he speaks truth. Rumors place the radiant conclave in this area in a questionable light. This Wilhelm, zealot of the conclave by the looks of it, told me that there were folk, mayhap alchemists, that were impersonating warriors in their ranks.

I know no folk in Foxbridge. I only know of Foxbridge as where my mother, rest her spirit, was from and thought it perhaps a safe haven from which to hunt the black one, so dubbed by Evyrid in our meting as they know no truths of the warrior aside from his destructive power. Should have built stronger walls than rickety wood given how the dark elf described him. Forgive me, thoughts of the slaughter are hard to free my mind of. The wounds are still quite fresh.

Are there any folk you know in Foxbridge aside from the guilds that are trustworthy? In these times it is a fool's errand to travel alone, especially with the dead rising from their graves or the hands of necromancers.

Well met Edarius,

I am Kel of the Red Branch tribe. Where in the Savage Lands do you hail from, as I may have met you in Rendezvous once or twice. You'd probably have remembered me for the chocolate I was passing out at a party. If not, then, you'll just get a chance to meet me in Foxbridge! I do not wish to presume, but, are you a member of the Headwater, or Red Branch Tribe? I am having difficulty seeing things in my dreams as of late so cannot quite tell.

Also, I can vouch for Ardryk, he's and his sister are good people.

Friend Edarius,

If you are still looking for a traveling companion, I will be traveling through the Savage lands to Foxbridge, and would be happy to accompany you. While I do not believe I am known to the guilds, I am an ally to both Sedovia and the Savage lands, and would also be glad for the company.

If it would be alright with you, is there a place we can easily meet?

Safe travels,

Amory Thistleburr

I can vouche for both Amory and Kel. Amory has been a friend of mine for many year and is Rai to my band. Many of us including her fought on the Golden Horn in the War of liberation against the Harkonian Empire. I am sure Amory can tell many brave tales of our battles there.

And as for Kel; How can you not trust such a joyous fellow who hands out chocolate?

Edarius,

I am Durnic Daeron of the Bittersong Meadows. After this year around Foxbridge, I am more than familiar with the surrounding territory and would be able to escort you should you will it. The woods are my home and I know ways around that few others do.

If you are bringing your sword, bow or spells to our land I will also do everything I can to fit you for armor and arm you as well.

-Durnic

Hail Armory, I would welcome the traveling companion, but I know not your location in the Savage Lands, I hardly know where I am as the days have worn on. I think I've crossed the border, but I am not entirely sure. In fact, I do believe I have gotten myself quite lost in my flight from my village. I haven't ventured to Sedovia since I was still an infant being carried around in the arms of my mother. I've met up with a Wylderkin named Whulf, a wolf kin. Provided me with food and water after I had passed out in the woods. From our discussions it seems the lad has faced the same foe I flee from and lost his entire pack. Perhaps we might still cross paths. Where might I find you if you are traveling this way? Whulf assures me he could find you given the location.

Also Armory, if you see a warrior clad in obsidian armor, bearing a crimson blade, and accompanied by a host of barbarians I advise you to turn and flee fast as your legs can carry you in the opposite direction. This warrior wields death as we do our swords. An entire regiment of guardsmen didn't even phase him when he burned my village to the ground. I give this same warning to all who are venturing in the Savage Lands at this time. Nobody knows the full extent of his power, only that where The Black One walks death and destruction follow.

Well met Kel, I do believe I've heard your name before, though I don't believe we met, unless you were the same chocolate maker that passed through frequently when I was but a small boy. I doubt you'd remember one young lad among the many you come across in your travels though.

And well met Durnic. I may be traveling with Armory if I should find good fortune and be able to find my way with the aid of Whulf, my wolf kin companion, Perhaps we might run into you on the way to Foxbridge if all goes well. And if you are wandering around the woods and see a lone wolf kin making camp, that is Whulf and prefers the woods to the town. He speaks in third person, so I apologize for any confusion that may bring during conversation. With all the talk of strange folk wandering the woods around Foxbridge I'd hate to see him harmed due to a misunderstanding.

Friend Edarius,

I will be traveling through Rendezvous in seven weeks, and am staying with the Headwater tribe until then. I can certainly meet you and friend Whulf in either location and then travel to Foxbridge.

Friend Durnic is a very adept traveling companion as well, and if he is closer, may make for a more capable guide.

I look forward to meeting you both in person either on the road or safe in Foxbridge.

Safe travels to you both,

Amory Thistleburr

Whulf will guide me to Rendezvous, says we are closer to there than we are to Foxbridge, and that is likely a safer road. He traveled there with his pack before The Black One slaughtered them. I look forward to our meeting Armory. I wouldn't expect to see much of Whulf though. He finds himself uncomfortable in towns. I don't know if this is due to the loss of his pack or something else entirely, but it is likely that while I venture into town he will linger on the outskirts. I would imagine the same will be true in Foxbridge. I tried convincing him to join me, but he is very adamant about this fact so I let him be. Mayhap we will run into Durnic as we make our way to Foxbridge from there. If Kel happens to be in Rendezvous I would welcome his company as well on the road to Foxbridge if his travels are taking him that direction.

Edarius how recently was your encounter with this Obcidian fellow? Can you describe his sword in more detail?

Vavarick

I've been on the road a week I'd wager since the attack, but I can't say for how long I was out until Whulf found me on the side of the road. This obsidian clad figure was probably 6'5" or so in height. His armor was thick and most blades seemed to just bounce off of it on contact. I was able to strike a weak point his gorget while his focus was on driving his sword through the gut my late mentor Arvec Tarnell, captain of the guard in my village. So unless he's since repaired it there should be a crack where my sword struck true on the right side of his gorget. His blade is a two-hander. A massive claymore, you couldn't miss it. The hilt was as dark as his armor and the blade blood red. Even being near it one could feel an incredibly dark power emanating from the weapon. I don't know if that sourced from The Black One himself or from the blade. The battle, if it could be called that was over before it even started. I only survived thanks to a timely rescue by a dwarf, dark elf, and what felt like a legion of soldiers clad in emerald and grey garb. I also recall a biata that gave me his sword prior to his death. His name was Thranwell in case anyone knew him, I don't expect he resurrected.
