Alliance Denver and the future of the Acarthia Campaign - Update on dates

Good afternoon Alliance members,

As many of you know, Alliance Denver only got the opportunity to host one live event in 2020 within the realm of Acarthia. Very early in the process, we spoke with Jesse and jointly decided to allow the campaign to end in the last two months of the 2020 season bringing the new shard, Galeania, into existence once we were able to give a proper send off to our Acarthian campaign. That decision then had to be reevaluated due to COVID-19 affecting the LARP community, and in fact the world we presently live in, to a much greater degree than we all anticipated. Again we jointly decided that Acarthia would need to dip into the 2021 season in order to host the shard ending events live next year. However, as we continue to limp through 2020 and are seeing no end to our current global pandemic, we find ourselves having to reevaluate that decision once again.

COVID-19 took us all by surprise. And as LARP organizers, we have repeatedly found ourselves presented with historically unprecedented dilemmas that required really creative solutions to fix. That problem-solving process has led Alliance Denver to some pretty amazing finds though. Like the creation of roleplay channels within our Discord servers to encourage the players to come in and interact with each other. This has gone well and many times, the activity fills up the feed with hundreds of messages a night. Additionally, we started Tuesday Talk and Thursday’s Rulebook Club to allow for video and text interactions which have been instrumental in facilitating a continued community presence. Overall, these changes have been very well received and outside chapters have even begun to join us. And all of these additions have granted us a wealth of information and a continued connection to the greater Alliance community.

Our latest surprise was the need to analyze the health of the community a few months into COVID-19 after some virtual events. We spoke with Jesse earlier in the week and came to the decision that we will be ending the Acarthian Campaign in October of 2020. This is going to be done virtually through Roll20, Discord, BGA, and virtual events online. Jesse will write up an ending story as well, which we will post to all of our social media outlets for members to read and enjoy.
We understand that many people will not enjoy watching this seven-year campaign come to an end in a virtual setting. We count ourselves in that group too. However, live events are unfortunately going to remain elusive for the foreseeable future. We genuinely do not know when we will be able to once again gather in-person to share this amazing hobby. None of us are happy with the reality of not being able to host live games. They are just not something any of us can ethically and safely host at present and that fact sadly is not going to change any time soon.

So, with that said, we encourage all of you to come join us, and the Alliance Denver community, as we prepare to say goodbye to the Acarthian Campaign and excitedly look forward to the next steps!
