Deadlands of Old

Is anyone from the states driving up to the Alberta chapter for their June event?
If so, got room in your car for a dude with gas money?

You could always, you know. Play a new/different lower level character. You might even find it fun for a change too...!

Right, that. My fourth character on the books might tick into the double digit levels before their first game, but that's not really my point anyways. Generally at your opening game you want to lay out the world, the upcoming plot, etc, and going to all the effort to do that for a group of players who probably wont come play in that chapter again for years doesn't really pay off. Besides, it could throw off the perceived power balance for a while if, for example, a bunch of Barbars roll in and put some harsh on some lowbie Celestial casters, it might limit the number of people who play C casters for years (I use this as an example because it's almost exactly what happened in Oregon about 7 years ago, and only now is there more than one C caster in town, and none of them are ritual casters). I'd much rather show up in a few events (after people have a chance to re-write their characters and what not) when the plot is established to the locals and the power dynamic is in place, then show up and say "what do you need help with?" rather than show up right off the bat and engage the plot on equal footing. As an experienced player with a character (no matter which one I play) that will be higher level then most of the locals, I think it would be more beneficial to a new game to show up as a "supporting player" than risk getting directly involved in a plotline that I probably won't be able to contribute to again for over a year, and I think that that is more likely at an opener.jpariury said:He's already got three that he plays... and they're all getting up there.Dreamingfurther said:Dude...

I'll look at your site to see what's on your donation list, or, if it hasn't been updated recently, do you know what you need?Anali said:Oh, oh! We like goodies!
That's fine, I found the post on your part of the board about a forthcoming donation list, so I'll keep an eye on that.Anali said:I have no idea what we need
Wait, I was under the impression that the August event was your opener. Now that I've looked at the calendar, it looks like August will be the fourth event. Huh. Okie dokie, in that case I'll see if I can come up for that or the July one then. If I've got it clear after my schedule of weddings and moving, I'll see if I can get a car-load from OR/WA to hit one of those. (I'll be 350 miles farther away after I move, so it'd be better to try and get it in now.)Anali said:...but having only had one event thus far
