Dreaming Missive from the Duchess K. W. Elavir to the Heroes of Fortannis

This message goes out to all heroes of Fortannis. In the face of insurmountable odds, Acarthia calls for aid. The waning hours of the shard may very well be at hand. In its most desperate hour, the shard of Tar'na'kesia, and all its people cry out into the mists, into the dreaming, begging for assistance from any who may be able to lend a hand. The cry grows weaker as the shard is plunged further into darkness at the behest of the Dracolich Entropy. As the hosts of undead under the command of the Dryad Lich, Dreadrot, march across the shard the odds look ever bleaker. Every battle he recruits more to their cause. Their number cover the horizon. The time for action is past, the hour has come for true heroes to emerge.

August, 420
Ducal Estate, New Acarthia

Heroes of Fortannis,

I write to you through the dreaming in hopes that I might call upon your stalwart experience in unusual situations.

I am Duchess K.W. Elavir of the Duchy of Tiberion, within the Kingdom of Acarthia on the shard of Tarnakesia, located in one of the more mountainous and wooded areas of Fortannis.

This unusual moment in our collective Fortannin history has afforded every one of us the ability to travel more freely than we have been able to historically. It is my hope that in this unusual time, I will be able to call upon the heroes across all shards for aide.

Our shard is in dire need of assistance. The Kingdom I and my fellow Acarthians reside in is under siege by a Dracolich (Entropy) and a Dryad Lich (Dreadrot) both of whom seek to unmake and then remake our shard in hopes that it will become impenetrable to Outsiders.

Dreadrot has taken much of the northern Baronies of our Kingdom and as they slaughter warriors and innocents alike, they turn them for their armies, increasing their slowly moving horde with every swing.

I have sent Ducal and Baronial forces to try to buy us time before the onslaught reaches the more densely populated areas of the Acarthian Kingdom, but it is always adventurers who make a resounding difference in historic battles - as you well know. This is why I am reaching out across Fortannis for assistance.

I expect that gatherings until at least the end of 420 will continue to be easily accessible to you. Many adventurers from all over Western Fortannis have already been making the journey to get a lay of the land and interact with the locals on a day to day basis. We have an upcoming larger gathering on the 29th of this month , should you prefer the larger gatherings. You will be extended food, drink and hospitality in New Acarthia should you be able to make the journey.

Should you or your allies be willing to lend aid, or send this missive and it’s attached documentation to other heroes of Fortannis, I (and the Acarthian community) would be most grateful.

The additional notes you’ll find with this missive carry more in-depth information on our situation and give a brief primer on our shard. Should you have any questions on the goings on, please do not hesitate to ask the people of Acarthia .

In service to Acarthia with gratitude and humility,
Her Grace, Duchess K. W. Elavir of Tiberion

Brief context on the Kingdom of Acarthia
(In the shard of Tarnakesia TAR-nah-key-zha)

Overview:
Gatherings occur in New Acarthia, which is in the southwest corner of the Ducal Fifes in Acarthia propper. Most gatherings are near the Ducal Estate, and Deepjug’s Tavern.

Brief History
A predominantly human kingdom, ruled by His Royal Majesty, King Andrew Moorefield. The Kingdom has existed for roughly 420 years, and is structured primarily around Nobility. Acarthia has the standard Mage’s and Healer’s Guilds and is populated by the usual array of adventurers found across Fortannis.

Disclaimer:
This dossier is by no means inclusive of all information, but will hopefully be enough to get you up to speed.

Situation Overview
The Kingdom of Acarthia, located in a wooded mountainous shard within Fortannis, is facing its greatest threat in history - A Darcolitch by the name of Entropy who seeks to unmake our shard and remake it to be less accessible to Outsiders (the creatures, not visitors). Her agent, Dreadrot - a dryad litch - has begun wholesale slaughtering innocents and adding them to his undead army which contains Death Knights, Death Rogues and flesh constructs referred to as “flayed juggernauts” which have incredibly thick hides. Dreadrot is leveraging some sort of corruption to take over the Landbond stones (ancient dragon magic) which form a network connected by leylines. If he corrupts all of these stones he will be able to hand them over to Entropy who will unmake the shard and then remake it (minus the inhabitants). We are still working out the particulars on his plan. His Majesty, King Andrew Moorefield we believe may have been corrupted in some fashion, and as he holds the “capstone” landbond stone, this is of great concern. We already have adventurers working on this situation to get more intel on it.

Enemies of Relevance
You can expect to deal with Undead in many forms such as Death Knights, Death Rogues, and Flesh golems. Anything that is undead is likely.
Entropy - Dracolitch
● Was once a Black Dragon
● Member of the Dragon Council
● Not a lot is known about her (We’re working on that)
● Motivation is to unmake and remake the world so it cannot be touched by Outsiders. (See below.)
Dreadrot - Dryad Lich
● This is not his first time attempting to corrupt the landbond stones. This was attempted in 388 as well.
● We are unsure of his motives to help Entropy
● Was once a Dryad named Bramble Mossleaf
● He has 7 philactories (we know several of the locations and simply need to retrieve them)
● He and his army are mostly in the north moving slowly through those Baronies. Outsiders
● Common enemies among Western Fortannis that are beings beyond reason.
● These creatures can take almost any form and are forces of destruction far above a Dragon in power and scale.
● Often more forces of nature and are often only hurt by specific types of weapons depending on the circumstance. (Jade, Obsidian, Orihalculm, and other rare metals or materials).

Persons of Relevance
The Dragon Council

● The Dragon Council is made up of dragons who are supposed to have a pact of not interfering with humans. This has gone as well as you think it has.
● The Dragon Council is almost impossible to get a hold of, and do not care to speak to mortal races in most cases.
● We’re not sure why they’re indifferent to their shard being unmade. Doomwing
● If you haven’t met a Black Dragon who builds artifacts and enjoys toying with mortal races, now’s your chance.
● Generally he visits our gatherings in human form and enjoys being generally smug about how much more intelligent he is than the adventurers.
● He claims to be on our side for this conflict but has a proven track record of using and manipulating adventurers.
● He was once Entropy’s lover (when she was a black dragon).
● Created a weapon called Dragontamer that was used to kill outsiders after he and Entropy had a run in with some of them.

Allies and Assets of Relevance
Acarthian Adventurers

The Acarthian Adventurers are your typical assortment of races, professions and opinions. There are a handful of houses and factions that are all aligned behind trying to save their home. Our local population is unfortunately a little smaller than it was previously, but we make up for it in gumption, grit and enabling a larger community across Fortannis.
DragonHold and Aetherian Adventurers
The adventurers from Dragonhold have been a staple in Acarthia for a few months now, and are assisting with saving the shard. Dragonhold is located slightly to the west of Acarthia in terms of their location in Fortannis.
Rumeria and Ethercroft Adventurers
The adventurers from Rumeria and Ethercroft have been a staple in Acarthia for a few months now, and are assisting with saving the shard. They are located slightly to the east of our Shard within Fortannis.
Western Fortannis Adventurers
Acarthia has been fortunate to have a longstanding friendship with many of the other shards across Western Fortannis. This includes Enerett, The Maelstrom, Strayden and Aer'Astria.
The Landbond Stones
Barons, Dukes, and Kings in Acarthia are all “synced” to land bond stones which allow them to wield additional power in their lands. Two of our local nobles who are active are “landbonded.” Typically every geographical location has a land bond stone (see map above). These stones only accept those who are considered the “leader” by the peoples of that area and function more on “intent” and will than any typical magic we’re used to dealing with. Several of the other non-kingdom aligned stones within our shard are being protected and have agreed to assisting. These stones are key targets for Dreadrot. We have reached out to the far corners of the shard to muster support fo their protection in the various geographies.
The Leyline Network
The stones (as mentioned above) sit on leyline “nexuses” which in some rare instances allow for travel or the ability to sense things in the network.
Aloe Mossleaf
The Elder Dryad who resides in the Annex just outside of New Acarthia where gatherings are held.
Jared Bloodstone AKA Tarnakesis
The original Golden Dragon who was the protector of our shard, and is now stuck in human form without his powers - thereby leaving us without a guardian (we’re working on this.) He also founded the Code of Chivalry which our nobility follow.
Kamala
The Gold Dragon who is the Guardian for the Landbond network. She was recently rescued from a void prison by the adventurers in July.

Active Investigations
Information Gathering

We are actively investigating a large number of issues, and do so as a group once every month. Should you be interested in these planning sessions please let any of us know. They typically happen on Tuesdays through the dreaming.
Under Investigation during August :
● The King’s odd behavior
● Entropy
● Dreadrot
● Prince’s disappearance
● Dreaddrot’s armies movements
● Acquiring additional resources
● Locations of phylacteries
● Potential artifacts that may be helpful

How you can help
There is a lot to do, and only a few months to get it done in. We have been asking friends and allies across the mists to assist in the many tasks needed to save a shard from destruction. This can come in many forms. Some are more gifted in information gathering while others are more skilled in “kick open the front door.” Everyone has something to contribute from the newest of adventurers to those who remember Tyrra.

Our next gathering is on August 29, 420 in New Acarthia and we will be gathering at Deepjugs tavern. If you are unable to attend the gathering, you can still lend a hand by visiting Acarthia and helping with investigations, scouting or the more physically engaging sort of thing adventurers are good at.

If you are willing, please reach out through the dreaming, or traverse the mists - we can certainly use your help.

OOC: TL;DR
Thank you for reading this VERY long doc!
● Denver’s 7 year story arc is ending in October 31 of 2020 this is the ramp
up for it and golly is there a lot to do!
● Scary undead, outsiders, dragons and fate! Woo!
● Not everyone enjoys online play, so I and the rest of my chapter have been outsourcing
a lot of the BGA and online support for our end of chapter plot. There’s a LOT that
needs attention. We tend to plan and chat every Tuesday night at 7pm MT. Non-locals
are invited to help with BGAs and frankly to say hello!
● We’re holding monthly (free) video virtual games and this period of time is a great way to
meet more Alliance players from all over the country! (Silver linings right?)
● Our Discord channel has free form RP 24/7 so it’s nice to stretch those RP legs once in
a while - you’re welcome to join in the fun anytime .
● I (the player of Elavir) am happy to answer any questions you might have in game or out
on Discord, but more or less any of the folks residing in the Denver Discord are happy to
help and answer questions. The channel is VERY active and a fun group.
● Feel free to invite friends from your chapter or beyond! This is a great way to meet fellow
Alliance folks from across the country.

Midnight is working with the Duchess to distribute this document to all corners of the shard so that all may know. Acarthian Riders deliver these to taverns and inns across the entire shard. He makes special care to have them delivered to the Dark Elves and the Dwarfs as well. Lastly he includes a copy to Aetheria, for Neysa.
