Eviction Notice - Game Day - August 21, Noble Woods Park - The Chakar Mountains - The dwarves of the Chakar Stronghold have had enough of the Harkonnians knocking on their doors. With the successful reconstruction of the doors to the Stronghold, and solidifying ties with the community of Landfall, they now take the fight to the hornheads and work to throw them out of the mountains on the northern tip of the Golden Horn. Join us for a battleday as either your character or as an NPC (or swap between them!) and play in this small-scale representation of a larger battle!

This game day is something a bit out of the ordinary - many years ago when I first started playing this game as NERO, there was a gameday like this in the woods out near Boston that was a lot of fun. For this game day, the PC price will be $10, the non-guild NPC price will be $5. We are hoping to have more NPCs than PCs, at which point we will split up everyone into even teams (presumably all the PCs will want to fight for the Chakar dwarves).

The game day will be broken up into six segments, each lasting about an hour long. Each segment will have a specific number of missions or tasks for either side: Harkonnian or Chakar. Players, both PC and NPC, will earn goblin points for each successful segment completed. For instance, one segment will involve having to hold a specific point of ground. For each minute that ground is held, that army's players will receive some number of goblin points, and so forth.

Because this gameday represents the war on the part of the Dwarves, all NPCs will be killing blow and resurrection-ensure active. That means that the potential for resurrection is extremely high, and the potential for multiple resurrections is extremely high, if you don't play smart and retreat when overwhelmed or run when outclassed by the opposing force. At the same time, there is a greater-than-normal amount of treasure that will be put out, which, if you are a PC, you can keep! NPCs that turn in treasure will be given goblin points based on how much treasure they turn in. Plus, if you manage to do some amazingly heroic things as your PC, all the fame and glory and bragging rights go to your character!

At the same time, because there is going to be a greater-than-normal level of risk, players that pay to PC will be given the option at the start of each segment whether they want to play their PC or NPC as a dwarf. Rezzes at this gameday do count, and if you perm, you perm. Also, at any time after you rezz, you may opt instead to complete the segment as a dwarf rather than as your character. In term of in-game descriptions, your character is simply off at a different part of the battle, but probably won't be identified at a later point for anything specific, and you won't get to keep any loot you find (though you will still gain goblin points for turning it in) during that segment. We'll have extra costuming on-site so you can swap to something else and not look like your character.

Finally, because there is the potential for swapping between your character and a dwarf, and because we anticipate it being an extremely hot day, we will be relaxing our standards for makeup for this one gameday only. We ask that if you have a base coat, you cover your face completely (there are mesh-faced hoods that work well, for instance). If you are, say, a sarr, we ask that you still use whiskers and cat ears, or some such. If you have specific questions, feel free to ask.

In my ideal world, we'd have 2 or 3 NPCs per PC. I know people start having their heart race when they hear "big battle, high risk", but for this work, the plot team needs to not pull any punches. I don't want to discourage anyone from attending, because I think this will be a lot of fun, but at the same time, I don't want anyone to let "Oh, plot will hold back if we're getting boned" roll around in their heads. This will be a battle-intensive gameday that helps shape the future of the campaign, and we want it to be as risky and realistic as possible for the story we're developing.

We plan to meet up at 10am and lay-on at 11am. We'll break for an hour-lunch around 2pm, then lay back on at 3pm and wrap up around 6pm.

So, there's the details I think are noteworthy. Surely you all have questions of your own, or I missed something, so let me know. If you plan on PCing or NPCing, also let us know here. :)

MORE DETAILS!!!! (Yay!)

To give you an idea of the sessions we have planned, below is a brief list of what will be in the works for the Chakar side. Something to bear in mind is that even if your side has an objective like "hold the ground at X", the Harkonnian side may have a completely different counter objective, like "move the Object of Undoing from point A to point B". While we have six sessions planned out, it is possible that we'll run out of time over the course of the day and have to skip one or two sessions, but there -are- key elements of the story that we need to try and get out (or at least make available) during this game day.

For the purposes of the fun and storytelling, if you do NPC as a member of the Chakar, feel free to take in-game what you witness as a dwarf as "this dwarf told me about <blah>" (barring things like Amnesias and the like).

The Chakar session objectives:

  1. Support and Defend - There are three key locations: a Starmetal Mine, a Mountain Pass, and a Forest Glen. These three locations must be in Chakar control by the end of the hour ("control" is defined as "no Harkonnian forces within a specific radius". 10 points per location held.
  2. Fire On The Mountain - Six key locations containing resources used by the Harkonnians must be held for five minutes each as Chakar raiders burn out the crops, etc. "Held" is defined as "having a member of the Chakar forces within a specified area (whether or not Harks are also in the area)". 5 points per ruined area.
  3. Operation: Keystone - Get "a thing". Details to be revealed at the game day as intel arrives, but the general idea is "there's a thing, let's go get it". 30 points awarded for success.
  4. A Day At The Races - Escort captives - Chakar have three captives at a time and must escort them from an undisclosed location to the Chakar base. 30 captives in total may be escorted. 1pt per captive transported.
  5. Hamburger Hill - there is a specific position in the center of the field that must be held for as long as possible. "Holding" it is defined as "no Harkonnian forces within a specific radius". Up to 30 points can be awarded.
  6. Operation: Rolling Thunder - Do "a thing". Details to be revealed, general premise is that there is a thing which must be done, so, like, do it? :) 30 points for success.

Harkonnian objectives will be revealed to them on-site (or in the Guild forum later today). NPCs on both sides will also receive goblin stamp awards for any treasure they turn in during the course of the day.

A death-defying game day on my birthday? I am so effing down for this! :D Count me as a +1!! And i'll try and bring some Seattlites down as well.

Virid will be shooting some friggin' minotaurs.

Awesome!

Sean,

Yes, that's the park. Is your son as a packet page? If not, I don't know that he'd feel particularly useful in this game day. The one following, we definitely will have stuff for him, but without being able to throw packets, I'm not sure he'd feel like an integral part.

Not yet, if he studies a lot over the next few weeks he might be ready but I don't think so.

I may bring him along to do photo work...he is also interested in watching combat from a 3rd person perspective & get a better feel for things if nothing else.

And to be official like: I will be there to NPC.

Minotaurs will be shattering Virid's friggin' bow.

And I'll be there NPC'ing.

I'll be there as Roan. To hand Virid more freakin' bows.

Sorry to say that this is on a Sunday, so I'll be at work, dreaming of getting smacked around (

I WILL make an event this summer! :censored:

unless something comes up i should also be able to make it as an NPC

This sounds really epic and fun. Wish I could make it down but timing is bad. Obv a good report should be posted online!!

Arannin will be Arannin-ing it up. Although we'll see how much stabby-stabby I can get in with all those NPCs! Ack!

Amy will probably be NPCing as well.

My son may be on site, but if so he'll be white headbanded and instructed that he can watch but not interact with us (except during the OOG break).

-Bryan

I'll be there, with a broom, sweeping up pieces of Virid's bow(s).

As an NPC, of course.

I will be there as Black.
