New Player Question: Latex Weapons

Hello Folks of Alliance,

Does Alliance support the purchase of weapons from webstores for use in game as opposed to making your own following the rulebook guidlines? If so, is there a particular site or sites that you know produce Alliance friendly weapons that will pass the safety check? You have many vendor links on the website but I fear purchasing a boffer weapon that may accidently not conform to the game's rules.

Thank you for any information,

per pg 83 of the ARB 1.1:

As with any weapon, each chapter has the right to refuse or accept latex weapons, so do not assume that any latex weapon you bring will be accepted. Please contact the specific chapter ahead of time to learn their policies on the matter.

Alliance Seattle, in particular, has offered the following advice:

When purchasing a latex weapon, please try to be aware of the manufacturer as per the lists below. In addition, you may want to double check the length on weapons by directly emailing the reseller - several times, we've seen two different resellers of the same weapon list it at two different lengths. There are several places that will custom make latex weapons (including Mark, an Alliance player from the SF area); you might try either his site at larping.net or look at Action Props via latex-weaponry.com if you are looking for such.

We recommend the following manufacturers for latex weapons:

Palnatoke
Iron Fortress
Forgotten Dreams
Action Props
Iron Liege (for their Hybrid weapons, which may or may not be thrust legal depending on the precise weapon dimensions)

We specifically recommend *against* the following manufacturer due to quality control issues:

Eagleflex

In addition, we urge caution when purchasing Calmacil weapons. These weapons are beautifully made but are significantly stiffer and heavier than most other lines of latex weaponry, and will require significant extra caution when using them in combat.

If you NPC your first event, I'm sure you'll be able to ask players who are using latex weapons where they got them. James, a New Hampshire player (if you ever end up that far north) has an online store selling Palnatoke weapons, and will bring them to a NH game he attends to help you avoid shipping costs.
