New Player

Hi,

I've posted before in reference to a ride, and just wanted to post again saying hello and asking if anyone sells weapons.

My name is Ashe, and I'm currently living in Salem, Oregon. I lived back East before that and have just come home from training(or I would have been to a game sooner). I played SOLAR, and thought about joining a NERO, or Alliance game there but unfortunately, it seems like the southern hospitality rule doesn't exist there and does here. I've been getting some questions answered and by far, you guys are the most friendly bunch I've met.

Anyway, I'm looking at dual-wielding when I come to play, and using waylay widgets often. I can make my own waylays but I would rather not make my own swords until I can see what passes inspection at your game. No sense in making it to use, and not being able to do so. If I could get two short swords made for a reasonable amount, or borrow two, I would like to go that route.

Looking forward to meeting everyone in December!

Kim, who runs Badger's Den sells some pretty amazing weapons. I can't guarantee which will pass, but many of us in both Seattle and Oregon use them. Marshals should be able to tell you more.

She occasionally shows up to events and plays with us, too, and when she does, she brings some stock and sells on site! She'd be a great person to get in contact with. :)

You can see her note in the marketplace here: http://www.alliancelarp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=101&t=8861.

And welcome!

If you need help with building some boffers, they are fairly quick to make.
There are probably more than a few players in your area that could help or you could make them at the game site (good part of that, you can get various people to help and/or give ideas on what worked for them along with a weapon marshall's input during building).

Getting the materials will be a big part of the items.

I ordered 5/8" thick foam from here.

Cores:
Goodwinds Cores: they recommend...go with the .505 and .524 inches in diameter and 54 to 72 inches long, but those are only good for 1 handed. I went to .745. The finished quarterstaff is crazy light for a 6 footer and still has very little flex.

Howdy,
Alliance doesn't have a separate weapon that's used for Waylaying. All 'standard boffer'-type weapons are required to have a 'waylay tip' on the end for use with the Waylay skill. Latex weapons do not have those tips, and may not be used for waylaying. You can get an in-depth look at the Waylay skill and the construction rules in the Rulebook. It's about $6 online for a pdf copy.

You can, however, use any waylay safe phys-rep for waylaying, whether it is tagged or not (which is what I believe Ashe was referring to). So you could make, for example, an open cell Sir Iftikhaar doll (patent pending) and if it is waylay safe, then you can knock people out to your hearts content with it.

Thank, Druk. That is exactly what I am talking about. Does anyone have a pair of short swords I could borrow, or buy? Or a sword and dagger?

I have a short sword somewhere that you can use for the December game.

Thank you!! Now to find a ride, and save just enough to be able to play. Does anyone know how much this game will be?
