NPC Thanks

Rogue
Team Prometheus planned this event for months, but it could have all turned to ashes were it not for the tireless dedication of the volunteer NPCs who made it came alive. We are so grateful to our backstage team, and we want each and every one of them to know how we appreciate them.

Some general shout outs from our PCs about our NPC team:

“All the new player NPCs did a great job, they really were fun to play against, and when on NPC shift they were fun to work with.”

Josh, as always; Quentin and the rest of the new NPC's for stepping up so well; Emily, especially for the quickling tag; and Miguel, for always having time to check in with someone OOC and give them a much needed hug.”

“All of our NPCs were superheroes this event, especially our new ones.”

Emily was fantastic all weekend! I don't know their name, but during the hobgoblin fight someone was constantly checking to make sure people were okay when they fell over.”

“All of the NPC's were SO awesome. There is no way I would have had the fun I did with out them. They MADE the game. I can not say thank you enough to all the time and energy and care they gave so that we could beat on them.”

“The Ogres who invaded the town on Friday night. I had a momentary bit of a panic when I was walking back to the Healer's Guild alone and I hear in the distance the growls of advancing Ogres.”

“The NPC that portrayed the alchemist for the merchant guild quest had provided excellent rp during the adventure.”

For Nick Burden and Zach West: “The pair of ogres that were randomly walking by and were confronted by Dargok were amazing, particularly when they actually realized who they were talking to.”

“Collectively, the NPC's did great. I will say that the training of new players was particularly well done. You had a group of brand new players and for the most part they were solid NPC's for you in clutch moments… Your brand new NPC's who did the Elemental Mark cave were super resilient. These guys are getting 2 shot by me and they kept coming with a smile. Awesome job there with the sheer tenacity.”

And some words of thanks from Team Prometheus for the AMAZING backstage crew we had in April:

Abi Dancho – Played one of the witches looking to expand their cabal. Has been working with us backstage to improve the atmosphere in the tavern. Has been practicing her Celestial spell verbals, tried her hand at sword & board in the Epyxian field battle. Might even be driving out to Big West to NPC in her endless enthusiasm! Abi is a bright star backstage, whose cheer keeps everybody going!

Brian Lambert – Brian is the hardest working man in show business! Tirelessly crunched all weekend, including through Ian’s elemental mods which had a lot of crunchy turnover. Brian’s interested in potentially becoming an appreciate Plot Team member, and has been turning in fishbowls and mod ideas behind the scenes.

Derek Reed – One among the Plot Team said, “Derek is my hero, he is the champion of champions. I really feel so lucky to have him on our team,” and we all agree! Derek is so cheerful, so capable, entirely reliable. PCs noted, “Derek did a great job encounter heading.” He is holding this whole game together! His work didn’t even stop on Sunday. Derek emailed us right after the event with some great suggestions for enriching the new player experience, and we plan to implement these ideas next event. Way to go, Derek!

Emily Randall – We received more compliments about Emily’s adorable and tireless quickling than any other single character or NPC at the event! “Emily's Quickling was wonderful. I avoid fae out of usual suspicion but she was very charming,” and going to say that she really stood out. “Thank you all for your hard and tiring work.” And, “Emily's quickling was...totally a quickling!” Emily taught all of us among the “new guard” how things work backstage. She was always available to help with any role, any task, or answering questions from us. We could not have run this event so successfully without Emily’s help; we’re all so very grateful that she joined us this weekend!

Ethan Niederauer – We love Ethan! Smart, creative, good roleplayer, tireless on Ian’s elemental extravaganza, asks the right questions, interested in the story. Now that we see what you can do, and we’ve got a taste for the sort of roles and stories that interest you (by which we mean the stuff you and Ketina did with Trace), we hope you’ll return. You did great and we were impressed with you!

Jordan Jennings – Jordan is an incredible asset to us. Bad luck sprained his ankle badly during the first hour of game on Friday night, cancelling a whole schedule of roles we had lined up for him. Nevertheless, Jordan remained backstage all weekend to help us run the desk in Monster Camp, get NPCs and encounters organized, advise on our plans, take the occasional slow-moving roleplaying role when available, all the while remaining so cheerful! It’s a pleasure to have Jordan on the team – we’ll miss him in May while he’s battling the zombie apocalypse!

Josh Alexander – Josh is one of Acarthia’s most veteran NPCs. His reliability, trustworthiness, and institutional knowledge of how Monster Camp works are irreplaceable. He’s also the only person who gets Trace’s cat jokes and references backstage, and is particularly appreciated on that point! Josh’s enthusiasm for the story is evident. He gets so excited when we’re gearing up backstage for battle, and he’s delightful in sharing that excitement with the rest of us back there, helping us get not only into costume and stats, but the right frame of mind and into character as well!

Karol Jolly – Karol is not quite, but nearly indefatigable! If her energy levels could be bottled, we could power the City of Denver for a year on them! No matter how many crunchies she’s played that day, she’s the one at the end that asks if we have just one more encounter to send out, please? Her enthusiasm in roleplay was equal. We’ve decided that Karol’s inner bad *** is screaming to get out, and it’s time to nurture that – Scions, be on the lookout for a Padawan that we’d like to send your way for some serious bad *** training in the future!

Ketina Schuchard – Ketina is a trooper! She played 5 million crunchies as she was learning the ropes, and we discovered where “the wall” is when Ketina hit it late afternoon, poor button. It was wonderful to see our backstage team come together to get her taken care of, and get her shoulder massaged, and have some quiet time to just chill after awhile… then Ketina bounced back full speed, out to do even more! She is also another gem of roleplay talent that now that we recognize, we’re eager to send out in more complex roles – and we have just the idea of which part of the story, too!

Matt Squires – Matt is one of those roleplayers who is very quiet, doesn’t say a whole lot, but you realize that he is drinking in every word spoken around him, every aspect of the scene in front of him. He knows everything that’s going on! He super impressed Trace, in particular, that – along with Padme and Josh – he was one of the actors who didn’t need to be in the encounter when Nogra and Dargok met for the first time, but he was so interested in the Gnarltusk story that he didn’t want to miss it! He painted up into ogre make-up just to be there and check it out! Matt has a rich interest in the story, and will be a real asset in our roleplay and storytelling going forward. We loved having Matt among us, and hope to work together again!

Nicholas Burden – Nick is simply SO awesome! This was his first full weekend with us, after Mod Day and Castle Day. He comes to us from DR, and a long history of Vampire roleplay – and that depth of characterization and complexity shows. Nick hit just the right notes of extemporaneous roleplay with even “crunchie” roles, bringing color and depth to them, but without going too far outside the intent of the encounter or role. His performance as “Broketusk,” who started out as Gnarltusk Ogre #16, turned into some really neat story around several of the PCs, and with Dargok which helped round out the story beautifully. We were so impressed!

Padme Miren – BIG shout out to Padme, who was not merely tireless all weekend, but stayed behind at the end of game to clean up Monster Camp. She was instrumental in getting everybody offsite even close to on time on Sunday, please help us thank her for that! Yet that was after a whole weekend of actively asking questions of every aspect backstage: roleplay, story, monsters, stats, rules, effects, fighting, organization of our stuff. Her questions were excellent, her demeanor is eager. From PC comments, “Padme had an awesome honor duel against Casey” as one of the Gnarltusk ogres on Friday night, and that really made an impression. We adore Padme and just can’t imagine our backstage team without her now. If this were, “The Voice,” we’d all be fighting over who gets Padme on their creative team!

Quentin Toetz – Quentin is such a good roleplayer! We didn’t get to showcase that nearly enough this past weekend, but if he’s able to join us in May, even now we have two prominent roles with his name on them because we were so impressed! No surprise: Quentin comes from a background of theatre, and stage combat in particular. His creative suggestions to his fellows backstage from his past experience were very welcome. All that, AND he was self-appointed captain of keeping our make-up table clean and organized during the event, which we really appreciate! Says Vincent, “I will cry when he decides to PC.” We all will. Thank you, Quentin!

Retta Lambert – Poor Retta was just recovering from illness, and was low speed this event – yet nevertheless kept everybody going with her dry wit and snap remarks in the comradery backstage. She brought alive a project for Rivervale related to the Corsith Cup big lacrosse match which we’ve been dreaming of for awhile. Meanwhile, Retta also has lots of great ideas both creative and administrative for the game, and has been emailing us since her introduction at Mod Day, eager to help out. Thank you, Retta!

Revan Lee – Revan kicked off his first Alliance weekend with taking charge of doing the physical setup for Monster Camp for us in a brand new space: Shelves, where things go, helping to organize others. He really stepped up willing to help in meaningful ways! Then he played 8 million crunchies, and kept asking us for more roleplay, so we tossed a few things his way to see how he’d do… WOW. By Saturday night, Revan was one of the actors in a faerie ring encounter alongside Dia, for some of you lucky to participate in that. Revan has an amazing range of roles and depth of character! This guy has talent! We’ve got some things in mind for you coming up, Revan, and we sure hope to have you join the team again – you were terrific!

Robert Lawless – Robert has a secret: He may actually be Trace’s shadow, animated, and now with a Disney actor voiceover. Every time Trace turned around, he was right there, available to take on whatever task is at hand! Crunchy? Module? Set up this complex roleplay scenario? Robert was on the job! He was eager, volunteered for everything, never seemed to run out of steam. Robert was so helpful and such a hard worker!

Ronica Reilly – Cool moment with Ronica in the Sunday morning Epyxia fight as she was out on the line on the field. Riggs tagged Ronica with an arrow from the PC line, “8 Normal!” Ronica held her hand up to ear, the international sign for, “What was that? I didn’t hear you.” Alex Smith called out the damage again, and Ronica repeated, “8 Normal, got it!” What a simple gesture of courtesy, but how smart, to let PCs know you heard them and took the hit. Great lesson for all of us! Additionally, Ronica painted herself 18 different colors over the weekend, never a complaint, always tireless, big smile on her face. She was a joy to have on the team in so many ways!

Zach West – Most of Team Prometheus kept forgetting that Zach was a brand new Alliance player; he owned his roles like he’s been doing this for years! Zach was a great team-up with Nick, in particular, as the pair of Gnarltusk ogres out on a mission. He shares the same ability of good roleplay and creativity to extemporize in a role to make it three-dimensional, believable, but not take it too far. He’s another one that really got into the story we were telling, and that is the THE BEST quality in a teammate backstage, when we all get super psyched about what we’re doing! We really loved having Zach with us, and hope to see you again at future events; we’ve got some cool roles in mind for you already!

We really want to promote a culture here at Alliance where our whole volunteer crew is one team backstage. This game doesn’t happen without them.

Team Prometheus also wishes to thank the MANY PCs who volunteered to give up some of their play time to help this event happen:

Doug: Although Percy is an Acarthian Rider in-character, thank you for making that part of the game come alive for so many people this weekend who received letters!

Warchester: Thanks for stepping out Friday night immediately after the start of game. We got two compliments for your crew in PC event commentary saying what color and character you added to the game! A third PC picked up details of your group, and spent the weekend tracking down information and leads to figure out what you’re doing.

Scions: Izzy, Nissa, Billy: Thank you for signing up in advance before the weekend to bolster our forces for the Hobgoblin battle on Saturday night. We knew we’d be tiring out by then, and having your good cheer, kindness, and humor backstage while we were getting really helped perk everyone up! Not to mention your badassery, of course.

Cassie Cornett and John Fawkes: Thank you so much for your willingness to step out of your PC roles and into some HEAVY make-up – done by Cassie, who just took that over, a thousand thank yous! You were perfect in those roles. Said one PC in their event commentary, “By the way - taking Cassie and John out as big ghouls was just evil. Pure, fun evil, but still. Evil!”

Taylor Kaiman, Doug Dexter, Amber Feldman, Shane Proctor, and Jack Reed: We received so many positive comments about the mod you ran with the Petrified Forest – the singular “negative” was a PC who missed the opportunity to go on it, and was super bummed since they heard how good it was! Great job all around, Team Petrification!

Bobby & Katie: Ugh, we’re so sorry that your team had some communication barriers and your encounter ended up not going out as intended this time. We recognize your time and enthusiasm in volunteering anyhow, and want to say thanks at least for your cheerful presence backstage while trying to get things worked out. It’s a cool group, and we hope it goes off more smoothly next time!

Dia: We received so many compliments about your roleplay, your amazing costume, your mere presence. Thank you for all the energy and dedication you’ve already poured into that role – it is absolutely showing in the quality! Additionally, thank you for your creative ideas and little projects elsewhere on Friday night. You do so much to help make this game awesome!

Freefox, Norrin, Garion, Zander (man, we have PCs with some cool names!): Thanks ALL of you for being willing to take a shift to help bolster our mod squads! This involved facepaint for all of you, and thus an inconvenience when getting back into your characters. Yet you all did this with smiles on your faces, and were so cheerful about it! Thanks for helping to form the ranks when everybody was starting to get tired with so much left to go on Saturday. We appreciated the help!

EDIT:
Jack Reed:
We already appreciated your willingness to jump unplanned into the role of the Fae Lord in response to PC actions. One PC gave you a specific shout out of thanks in their event feedback for this role! NOW we hear from Taylor that you were also part of "Team Petrification." Along with your outing with the Warchester hobgoblins, that is Triple Word Score for Jack Reed for the event, making him the clear choice of MVP among PC volunteers! Jack, you rock the house, thank you so much for your enthusiasm!

I apologize if this list is not exhaustive, and indeed it’s very likely I’ve missed a few because we got SO MUCH help! If I missed anyone, please give me a gentle shout out, and I’ll get them on this list right away.
