The guard pats you down, quickly, but efficiently. Seemingly satisfied, he says “Vlad here will take you up to the house.” and from behind you steps another guard, who also nods to you and begins walking towards the large house in the center of the compound.
Vlad takes you to the front door, where another guard opens it for you and you both step inside an elaborate mansion. Pausing only briefly in the main foyer, Vlad leads you to a drawing room just off the right side, during your brief walk inside you see a couple servants but no other guards are visible inside the house, which is something you expected to see. Once in the drawing room Vlad turns to you and says “You may sit if you wish, someone will be with us shortly” and he moves off to stand guard between two large windows which overlook the lawn at the front of the house.
A young servant girl bustles in with a tray of ale and snacks, she offers you some and leaves the tray on the small side table should you want to help yourself, and then she quickly departs again.
The room you are in isn’t overly fancy, the furniture and decorations are of very fine quality, but not gaudy to the eye. A few lovely paintings and tapestries hang on the wall; a small fire is going in the fireplace adding soothing warmth. Hanging on the wall, as a respectful display, is a finely crafted dwarven axe. Someone must have respected the Duchess greatly to offer her such a piece; you have a mere moment to ponder that thought, when another man enters the room.
He is a rough looking man, dressed all in black. A great sword on his side and he has a rather stern expression, partly due you think to the scar on his left cheek. Looking you in the eye, he says “I am Johan, Master of the Household for Her Grace. You are Home Guard, yes? Is something amiss that you are here to report? Her Grace is unable to join you herself currently, but has sent me to see how she can be of assistance.” Johan pours himself ale and takes a seat on one of the couches, facing you.
