Oregon 2019 Donation Drive Pre-Announcement

Hello fellow LARP-fiends! For the 2019 donation drive this year, we wanted to try something a little different. We have a goal this time of $2,000 so that we can purchase a trailer for hauling Monster Camp. Not only will this get us a trailer, but should provide us with some adequate padding in order to do anything to it that is required for maintenance such as tires or axles.

Why are we doing this? Well, other than site fees and coinage, storage and trailer rentals are one of the biggest recurring expenses that we have. More so than insurance, even. We are paying $170 a month right now for storage and it is around $100 to rent a trailer for each event. If we can find a trailer for around $2,000 that is large enough to store Monster Camp within it, we can earn all of that money back in less than a year on the storage fees alone.

As you can see, that’s a lot of money saved. Since we put 100% of all of the money made by Alliance Oregon back into Alliance Oregon, this money directly translates into more garb, props, equipment and special effects for our games.

To shake things up a bit, we are going to go with a Kickstarter-like donation tier system. If we end up hitting our goal of $2,000 the owner, Rick, will shave his beard off entirely. Live on Facebook. We’ll let that sink in a bit.

All sunk in? Good. Now, what are the other tiers you ask? Well, we don’t know quite yet and that’s where you come in. We have a remarkably talented community in Alliance and we’re hoping we can get some help. Are you an artist and wouldn’t mind giving some time to do character portraits? Let us know! Are you a leather worker and don’t mind making some coin purses or something more intricate for high-end donors? Let us know! If you donate your time as a crafter you will be generously rewarded with goblin stamps equal to your normal hourly rate as part of the donation drive without having to spend a dime!

To be clear, these are rewards above-and-beyond the 10-to-1 goblin stamp we usually give out for our donation drives. That means that if we have a $50 tier and you donate $50 you will not only get the 500 goblin stamps but you will also get whatever is at that donation tier.

If you would like to volunteer to help in this regard, please email us at logistics@allianceoregon.com and make sure that owner@allianceoregon.com is also on the list. We can communicate there all official-like.

We are going to wait a couple of weeks as we work with crafters to get our tier system setup and then we’ll post up the final for-reals donation drive post. Probably around the time of the Broken Shards October event.

Thank you everyone for your help and we look forward to working with you all!

We could have a Shave the Beard / Save the Beard competition...see which side raises more money.

Take my money.. Keep the beard!
You are the third person to say something exactly like this when makes me want to see if we can pull off a competition just like @Kevar mentions.

Any status updates?

Not yet. I am working with some of the people that have reached out to craft things to finalize our list and then move forward. As stated in the above I will post something "around the time of the Broken Shards October event.". :D

Update:

There will be no update until after Broken Shards, sorry; we're all busy getting everything ready for the event. :D
