What effects, if any, can be used to prevent using a dumb defensive such as magic armor?

For example, can you dodge a slay instead of allow the magic armor to absorb it?

Is evading or dodging any differnt then parry/riposte in this regard, can you riposte a slay if you have a magic armor active?

What abilities can you NOT use in place of a dumb defensive (such as resist poison instead of poison shield etc.)

1) To answer your first question you can use (Dodge, Evade, phase, Parry, Riposte) to prevent your magic armor from being used for Most weapon attacks.

2) Evade will not work against "Prepare to Die attacks" but the other calls will work.

3) You can always parry or riposte a slay attack to prevent the slay from using your dumb defense (eg. magic armor)

4) As for resists, you could consider these as a "last option" active skill. A spell or effects must be able to go thru all your defenses for this skill to be used. I the case of Resist Poison and Poison Shield the Poison Shield would be popped first and a second poison attack would then have to be resisted unless you use a class skill like dodge.

To follow this up...

Are "Cloak" and "Bane" defensive abilities in the list of things that you could use to preserve a 'Dumb' defensive spell and use before setting off a protective spell such as a Spell Shield, Poison Shield, Elemental Shield, exe, exe as well?

Cloak and Bane can be used before your dumb defensives.
