Roleplay for Casting Spells

Additional Spell Effects

When triggered: This is an LCO effect of casting magic within the Maelstrom. The effect is triggered when you cast a spell (or use an innate ability) which is representative of the highest magical level you can cast. Thus, a spellcaster who has one 6th level spell at the top of their pyramid and casts a Sleep spell (Command) would have an RP effect “Arrogant and/or Self Important” for 10 minutes. If they had two 6th level spells (and no ability to cast a 7th level spell) and cast a Cure Critical Wounds spell they would have a 10 minute “Excessive Compassion” effect, followed by a Cause Critical Wounds spell they would have a 10 minute “Euphoric” effect. These effect CAN both happen at the same time duplicate effects simply extend the endpoint to 10 minutes from the casting of the second spell.

Once this spell caster is able to cast 7th level spells, then casting the 6th level spell no longer triggers the roleplay effect.

Ritual casting is separate from Spellcrafting, which is separate from Battle Magic, thus a Ritual Caster would still need to recall the impact of casting their 9th level spells.

Durations:

-Battle Magic: 10 mins

-Spellcrafting: 1 hour

-Rituals: 1 hour per year (or fraction thereof), max 5 days.

A few questions:
Does using a magic item trigger this effect?
Does using scrolls or potions trigger this effect?
If some crazy scholar decided to dual school, would the effect only happen for their highest circle of magic period, or for highest of either school? (i.e. When casting 5th circle celestial AND when casting 1st circle earth)

Thank you for your great questions!

Does using a magic item trigger this effect?

It does not.

It does not.

Only for the highest level spell you can cast.

Innate abilities may also trigger this effect for monsters, or players who have some sort of magic innate ability (gift of the land, wacky plot powers).

I'm confused on the application of this to coatings and alteration

Will use of an elixir or application of a coating also trigger this and would the person administering or receiving the elixir receive the effect?

Edit: seeing your above response I would assume coatings and elixirs do not trigger. Correct?

Correct Dom. Alteration is included because there are ways out there of casting Alteration effects with a magical packet delivery. In such an occasion, if it's the most powerful magic available to the caster, they would experience the described effect.

Question, can exposure to the effects of these magic effects also influence a characters to change their overall rp personality? ie. A character known to show cowardice suddenly shows more courage in general after casting protection spells often because they have been influenced by the magic effects.

Question on Magic Storm: Evocation spell without a particular element. Does the RP effect count as "Damage" or something other?

This has been known to happen to some individuals. There is no mechanic for it so it is purely a character choice.

Hi Henry,
I know I'm arriving late to this, but does the use of wands trigger this effect?

Hoyce here, channeling Henry: "Nope!"

The more detailed explanation is that wands don't actually fire spells, but just elemental energy, which is not affected by this plot/campaign effect. Accordingly, you can fire a wand all day long and not ever trigger the RP effects of spellcasting.

Thanks!
