The Life Grove and New Acarthia

It begins with a slow, rolling, rumble - the late morning sunlight dappled by spring leaves becomes a wash of light as the landscape roils and turns. Great roots, massive trees, thick underbrush, and plants of every description burst from the ground in a wave of growth and destruction.

Buildings are hit hardest, with foundations cracked in half by the sudden upsurges of now broken ground, while farms see copses of trees sprouting to full height mid-field. The crops that remain have taken on massive proportions, at least doubling their size.

Though many are injured, no one is killed in the “Greening” of the estate of New Acarthia. Initial estimates put the extent of the new environs outside the estate itself, covering portions of Woodvale, Merchant’s Row, Solace, Woodhaven, and the entirety of the Annex, as well as dozens of square miles of the Howling Woods. The boundary follows the geographic features of the land, causing the shape of the area to distort and fill valleys and run along waterways, though the majority of the affected area is contained within the Howling Woods.

Rescue efforts are mounted, and successful, with neighboring estates sending what aid they can - Solace being adjacent is a great boon, as the Healers Guild provides its services quickly and openly to all those affected.

Not long later, the populace is greeted, in a way, by ambulatory plants - gardeners of sorts who begin tending to the new greenery in a mindless way. They are first a subject of curiosity, as they seem to ignore the residents of the estate entirely, and go about their business. However, it is not long until tempers flare over the loss of lands and homes, and an altercation erupts between the townsfolk and the plant creatures. No one is killed, but the plants show themselves to be quite capable of defending themselves. Many townsfolk find themselves entangled in vines and roots, struggling helplessly against them while the plant return to their tasks, and eventually move on.

The administration of the estate posts notices and entreats the populace to remain patient, and avoid antagonizing the plant creatures while they investigate, and determine a course of action - many hoping the ducal meeting in three weeks hence will elicit a solution.

Meanwhile, life goes on, and reconstruction has begun on the most critical structures and services - though not without the occasional grumble or complaint, and certainly not without a watchful eye on the new neighbors.
