Thrown weapon help

Hey trying to make a thrown weapon, what are the guidelines on that? Is it better to use a sturdy foam (like a pool noodle) or open cell foam?

They are open cell foam and duck tape.

Pool noodle scrap is great for crossguard type stuff.
