I just want to make sure I understand this correctly, so consider the following: Imagine I have a 1/day Bane item that expires in 2 years. Per the "If your item lasts longer than a year but does not have an explicit "Extender" ritual (such as many items generated from Treasure Policy), it is presumed to have a Preserve Duration that lasts until the specified date" inclusion, my item is worth a total of 675 points (350 from the Bane, 325 for a base difficulty Preserve).
Can I then spend my points on, for example, a Spell Store 5 (350 points) and a new Preserve (325 points) to create a 5-year item out of what had been a 2-year item? If so, is there any reason for me not to convert all of my current items with Preserves into brand-new 5-year items rather than letting them carry on their otherwise 2-5 year durations?
Imagine that you have a ring worth 2000 points that expires in 13 months. You consider it cheesy to change the enchantments on the ring and give it a new 5-year Preserve, but how it any less cheesy for me to switch some of the points over to a longsword and give it a new 5-year Preserve?Realistically, I think we should all be able to agree that taking a preserved item that’s going to expire in August, rebuilding it with a “new” preserve, bought using the points from a preserve that is expiring in 5 months, is cheesy as all get out, regardless of whether we interpret the text on the spreadsheet in one way or another.

Stuff like this is why I’m half tempted to just toss out my old MIs and start from scratch. >.>
