As you know, there is a cursed shadow in a certain circle that we ought destroy. It may prove necessary to pool town resources to get the materials. Our grey friends in the plane of life think that casting the ritual we planned will have no ill effects, so all that remains is procuring the scrolls, reagents, etc. I've been asking around about scrolls on my own time, but have yet to hear back. As for the casting, I think a certain amount of ceremony would do well, as well as devoted guards in case of bad actors. So it may involve the town, if we so wish.
(If I am speaking obliquely, it is due to my concerns of those seeking to free our captive. Not that any sane person would desire such, but we have seen our fair share of fools.)
If that is taken care of, the situation on the elemental planes is the pressing concern. The proposed solution is to arrange something of a defensive pact on between the 3 elements which the plane of Flame is currently assaulting. This will involve swaying certain commanders of the elemental forces to favor this pact. One commander I know of being, I think, named Frostbeard, who I expect may jump at the opportunity of an alliance in the face of extinction. The other commanders remain to be discovered. It seems to me likely that a large battle with some foe may be asked as a show of good faith, in which case we will need the strength of the town.
Our forays against the fire elementals have been, so far, not entirely pleasing. We were rather on our back foot both times. We need a more complete grasp of their weaknesses and their behavior, and we need better preparation and better formation for these fights. I would appreciate input here from those of you who fought with them. What worked well against them? What efforts failed? The spread of information is paramount. Even things that seem obvious are important.
