    [.11] Monster Slayer/Healing Strike

I still don't understand why the carrier for a slayer / reaver isn't the name of the creature / race it kills (maybe with the word slayer or reaver after). 5 Elf Reaver 10 Orc Slayer 15 Plant Slayer The NPC would know if it affected them or not, without any assumptions on the player's end. -MS

    [.11] Value of Counteract

Something I just noticed. With the change to Riposte (which I very much like), I realized that Counteract pretty much only has value for Adepts or alchemy using Rogues. I think this should probably be mentioned in the description of the skill (that it doesn't meaningfully help against martial...

    [.11] Rogue State

I play a Scout and I am very aware of the benefits of a Scout vs. a Rogue. I am also very aware of what I give up. The benefit of higher average damage (overall) is nice and part of the main reason I play the class. And I expect that to remain true in 2.0. However, for that benefit I am...

    [.11] Celestial Adverse Races [POLL]

I have a lot of thoughts on this, but for the sake of brevity, I will narrow them down to two for this post. 1) The problem in my opinion (at least for Biata) is that the aversion is an actual mechanical restriction. The only other race that is outright prohibited from purchasing a skill is...

    [.11] Repel strike

I'm surprised about that. It seems that it is appropriate for bows for pretty much the exact same reason it is appropriate for two handed weapons (to give the fighter a little breathing room to attack). -MS

[.11] Combined Strike is for whom?

You only need one 9th level spell to buy Formal Magic (not 4), so assuming absolute minimums (one 9th level spell, Dagger weapon skill, 60 XP in martial skills), the minimum prerequisite XP should be 160 XP (7 for spell pre-reqs + 2 for dagger + 4 for Formal Magic + 60 XP Martial + 87 for a...

Archery Opinions: packet or larp arrow?

Wish I had seen these responses earlier. I disagree with David on the topic, but also legitimately see his point and where he is coming from. I don't think he was being disingenuous for a moment. He was teasing me a little and I am totally okay with that from someone I have known over half my...

[.11] Time to Get a New Life

In my experience (I understand regional differences exist), the vast majority of deaths don't happen because healing isn't available. They happen because appropriate healing can't reach the person in the time limit. A one minute time limit is rather tight in many situations and after that the...

    [.11] Riposting Strike

True, but an interesting point was made in either this thread or the other Riposte thread. Unlike a Doom or Eviscerate, you can't fully Meditate back a missed Riposte. You can Meditate back the Riposte, but not the defensive used to power it. So, if you have 5 Parries and 5 Ripostes and you...

[.11] Time to Get a New Life

I've said this before and I stand by it. I think the Life solution is to change the mechanics of death and dying. I think the bleed out period should be 5 minutes total and then you resurrect. During that five minutes, any healing effect brings you back to positive health, but leaves you in a...

    [.11] Riposting Strike

To be fair, if you will have 15 Eviscerates a day, then your character already qualified to have 5 Eviscerates a day. 10 more might seem like a lot, but even Eviscerates have diminishing returns. I personally don't feel that you have suddenly disrupted the balance of the game with this trick. -MS

[.11] Riposte is Weird and Probably Breaks Intentions

As a Scout player, I think this would be horribly complex on the field. Unless I missed something, it would be the only case in the entire rules where I needed to know whether a skill was Stealth or Martial during game play. Currently, those distinctions only matter outside of play, when...

    Additional uses for goblin stamps

Other than the last one which has a specific limit listed, are there any per weekend limits on these like there are on purchasing production items? -MS

    [.11] Questions about the packet

I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but I figure it is best to ask. If I use Riposting Strike and the skill I activate misses, can I Meditate the Riposting Strike back? -MS

    [.11] Riposte XP

Riposte is pretty simple. You activate a Dodge, Parry, or Evade. You immediately activate Riposte. This allows you to use ANY martial or stealth skill that you have an available use of without spending spending that skill (and ignoring positioning). There is no special keyword to call out...

Archery Opinions: packet or larp arrow?

I played in those same games as David, and I disagree with how cool it looked. At least half the time, the arrow wobbled sadly through the air, before (all too often) being easily deflected (I did it with a dagger once). But, honestly, whether it looked cool or not, it was mechanically...

    [.11] Questions about the packet

Just confirming... The only difference between Parry and Evade now is that Parry can be optionally used as an intercept + guard and Evade can only be used as a guard? -MS

    [0.10] Constant Damage Scaling

I am mostly okay with these changes and I do think adding more fighter daily use options is a good thing. But the specific post you quoted (and the last few I made) had nothing to do with my opinion on whether the changes were good. Those posts (and definitely the one you quoted) focused...

    Benchmarks for Rules Analysis

Based on the responses, I am going to assume that people here aren't really familiar with how benchmarks work or what value they offer. -MS
