Travelling on the cheap... Airfares and such

fly.com, kayak.com, Southwest (if you can). I live on the west coast and have flown back east several times to play game and visit family, those are how I go.

Friendship, and trade for magical swords

If no one can supply you with a ward and you require assistance with a wizard lock, the Sign of the Raven might have a battlemagic scroll kicking around. Making trades or purchases for scrolls or magic weapons here can be tricky; there are many ritual scrolls whose magics (and the items that...

Pushing Crossbow construction to the limit...

I'll second Matt's opinions. So long as the tubes are secure, and the outside dimensions follow the guidelines, I don't see any reason there couldn't be string repped in foam, and negative space. As for the securing of packets to the weapon, I've seen it done in many places and no one's ever...

    Winter write-ups update

Jeremy, I didn't get anything additional. I might be throwing my plans for an SF writeup out the window and repeatedly pestering this plot team, though. The chance for Phedre to dig through what the Thelucians did is more appealing than training as a champion for an elemental plane. Plus, if the...

    Horn Making Instructions

You can also shape the horns so they contour to your forehead just below the hairline, and use medical adhesive (which takes some practice) or spirit gum to affix them. (Headbands give me headaches and my primary is a mwe.) Pansdevilhorns.com also sells some relatively inexpensive pairs.

    Ward + Wizard Lock

I'd call it a blown spell attempt. The description states "Multiple wards or wizard locks," and doesn't mention any combination. They aren't the same spell, so they would be incompatible.

Something That Sucks. How do we make it not suck?

In the isolated case of that National (not the case at the other 2 I've attended) there was work that didn't get done. We've all attended events where the ball got dropped. It doesn't make all National events just like that. It's not an indicator that National Events are bad.

Something That Sucks. How do we make it not suck?

If you're talking about the National 3 years ago, that was an event fraught with issues. It wasn't the best example of how a game should be run, because there didn't seem to be much of a cohesive event plan. To me, it just looked like lots and lots of individually planned and run mods for the...

    Winter write-ups update

I-- This-- There aren't even-- I love you guys. My dog looked at me like I'm crazy because I laughed, did a victory dance, and yelled at my computer screen in the process of reading this writeup.

    Ouch. Let the sacrifices begin.

    Winter write-ups update

3 hours to blood sacrifices. The knock knock jokes would be too painful ;)

    Winter write-ups update

Dan: got an ETA on the writeups? I'm trying to get a submission in for SF for the event next month, and would like to include a synopsis of my winter writeup for that plot team. :wub2:

    Roleplaying a Disability

Limping is a bad idea. This is an extreme example, but Hugh Laurie (Dr. House) has complained and noted in multiple interviews that limping on set has caused him discomfort and pain in the years of shooting. Useless arm, stutter, deafness, or anything else that doesn't actually alter how you...
