Adventurers of Atupal,
I would like to take a moment of your time to update you on a few things about our fair city in the sky, Atupal. Vaelin and I, in an effort to better understand the city cast a vision in the control room. Based on what we saw as well as perceived urgency, we made a decision to put down a circle of protection around the control room. However, Atupal has absorbed the circle and, as far as I can tell, we are all invested in it. As such I strongly request we refrain from bringing non-adventurers into the control room. (The exception being Roy's father, Ein.)
The following is a brief overview of the vision: We initially were presented with a civilization of peoples that were living in a Utopia. There was a central source of magic that supported the town. It had the ability to sense the needs and desires of the townspeople and grant those wishes. For example, "I'm craving a fruit smoothie" poof I would now have a delicious fruit smoothie in my hand. This was great and wonderful for a time. However, there are desires and feelings that are normal (in small measure) to existence. Hate, rage, lust, covetousness, etc. The magic didn't fully differentiate these desires from other wishes and so it created monsters that would try to fulfill these dark desires. (Adventurers have seen these monsters at work in a training room of sorts, more detail can be provided if requested). Eventually, so many monsters were created the lands became uninhabitable. The queen led her people into Atupal with the command that the only thought in their minds and hearts was the protection of their children and the protection of the city. A valiant knight stood back fighting against the monsters as individuals brought their children to the safety of the city center. Ultimately, The parent's bodies and spirits were absorbed into the city with their pure desires to protect the children of the land. This created a protective barrier around the city as it rose up into the sky and floated into lands unknown.
Roy, the engineer from Skain, is now bonded with the city. Due to his demeanor, age and sense of wonder the city thinks he is a child, or at least his treating him like one. Thus far we have been able to keep Roy entertained and comfortable (I read him stories most nights, his father often requests to attend as well). However, our concern is that if Roy or the city, were to be threatened the lingering magics would do everything possible to protect their child. Roy's consciousness could be lost in the sea of desires and Atupal could turn from this beautiful (and developing) home into a literal prison.
This leads us back to the decision to put a protection around the control room. We wished to limit the potential access of outsiders and threats to the control room. The city has decided to invest us all, so the responsibility has become all of ours to protect our new home.
