Alliance LARP Chicago Staff restates our commitment to a safe and inclusive environment for all participants. Everyone has the right to play LARP without fear of sexual harassment, abuse, or assault.
The Chapter has a long standing zero-tolerance Harassment Policy and has worked hard to create and maintain an environment of respect and dignity. We are dedicated to continually improving our policies and practices regarding sexual misconduct by maintaining an open dialogue with our community and fostering a culture of accountability. Our Player Service Representatives are always here for private or anonymous discussions regarding dangerous or uncomfortable situations.
It is through this lens that we are viewing the statements posted almost two weeks ago describing the undisclosed inclusion of a registered sex offender as a staff member in an Alliance chapter.
We do not condone this situation. Actions must be taken locally and nationally to resolve the issue.
At the National level, Alliance LARP Chicago Owners support the pending “Restriction of Registered Sex Offenders” Bylaw Proposal. This proposal prioritizes the safety and well-being of participants while still maintaining local chapter authority and accountability.
Locally, we will be consulting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion experts to review and possibly rebuild our own practices and policies to ensure they are up to date and address all facets of this issue.
Finally, we call on all Alliance Chapters to review their own policies to ensure they are acting in the best interest of their community’s needs. All Chapters are different and require different kinds of policies and cultural solutions, but all people deserve the same kind of respect and protection.
Together, we can emerge as a stronger community by creating a culture that fosters respect, promotes inclusivity, and unequivocally condemns sexual misconduct. In recognizing and correcting wrongs, we will come together to rebuild what we’ve lost and grow into something better.
Please reach out to any staff member with your thoughts and concerns.
Signed,
Chicago Owners (Alex Mclean, Jared Myers, Ethan C. Rath, Derek Sturn, & Ian Sturn)
GM (Amanda Feigenheimer)
Plot Teams (Emma Adler, Claire Benike, Bryan Laird, Sid Price, & Alexander Thompson)
