Any Eastsiders want to be my mentor?

Hi Im completely new to the LARPing experience, I always thought it looked fun but never actually had the guts to try it and I'm trying really hard to make myself give it a go. I wanted to know if there were any LARPers on the Eastside of Seattle (or really anywhere in the greater Seattle area) who would possibly be interested in mentoring a noob such as myself. Help me understand what to expect from the first event (thinking of trying to be ready in time for the Feb event) and help me in my process of making sure my weapon is going to pass safety guidelines and be weildable and such. I would love to have someone I know a little bit at the event to help me get the best experience (I'm typically quite shy).

Any takers? Anyone need an apprentice?

Idk about apprenticeship, but I'm from Seattle and I know some people in the Renton/Kent area who probably wouldn't mind hanging out and giving you a hand. Just drop me a PM and we can set something up, if you like. :D

Howdy!
There are a bunch of really good resources concerning our game. People are one of the best, but it's hard to get together between games sometimes. (People come from all over the northwest, and we'll even have some people from San Fransisco and farther at this game). Here are a few other good sources of info:

Browse around this forum! Each section has a few "Stickied" topics at the top that answer a lot of common questions.

www.alliancelarp.com is the website of the whole national organization, there's plenty of info there, too. Here's a few key sections:

http://www.alliancelarp.com/faq.php a general FAQ on the organization.

Ninety percent of all questions that you'll ever have about the rules are answered very clearly in the Alliance Rulebook. You can download a copy of it for about $6 here: http://www.double-dragon-ebooks.com/sin ... &x=62&y=77

I'll run all of the new folk (there will be quite a few!) through some orientation stuff at the beginning of game, so you won't come in completely unprepared. The best thing you can do is probably get the rulebook and take a look through that. Take a read through the "Combat" and "Effects" sections. While they're entirely about fighting (which is really only part of our game) they contain the rules that will come up the most often. Our rulebook is pretty thick and no one expects you to know every detail right off the bat (or even what most of the effects are!) it'll help out quite a bit to have seen them before the game.

While I certainly condone hanging out with Barbara (prashka) & company, I'd like to mention that the task of being ready in time is greatly reduced if you're NPCing with us, because we take care of food, weapons, and costuming. So, while making a weapon to pass safety inspection is a worthwhile exercise, it's not necessary to do before coming to our next game. All you need to bring are sleeping stuff, toiletries, warm black clothes without logos. good shoes, extra socks, and a good attitude.

Heya, I'm in Bellevue and most of this next week will be event prep for me. If you wanna get together some time you can drop me a line and we can rap about the game.

Been doing a ton of research about everything and tried to create my first sword. This week my goal is to what I'm going to wear ready. I just emailed all of my character info/skills/back story to Logistics so I'm hoping I'll be set for next weekend now. :)

If you need to borrow a sword for the event (if yours doesn't pass safety check) I have extras. Just ask for Ron (IG Alcandar).

Thank you! I have left over supplies too so I'm gonna make a couple more with slight variations where i was confused and see if something works. I appreciate having a back up plan. I'd hate to get there and be defenseless :P
