Full Text Changes

Spark

Scholarly
Passive
Prereq: Read Magic
Allows a character to throw 10 packet attacks of “Elemental 5 <element>” using a Celestial Source or item acting as one. When making the attack, the character must choose a single element from: Flame, Ice, Stone, or Lightning, depending on what elements are available on the source used for the attack. The packet count for this ability can be reset by Meditating.
This damage cannot be increased or modified in any way.

Conclusion: By adopting this proposal, we enhance the thematic integrity of Scholars. This reimagining of Spark not only benefits current players but also sets a foundation for future design possibilities.

Alongside the above change to Spark, we are also proposing the following four Ritual effects and one Superior Equipment effect:

After making use of this Ritual the character must successfully complete a Meditation before using any further Spark attacks.

This ritual requires 4 reagents to cast as listed on the Ritual Scroll.

Vote: ARC Rules Proposal: Spark [FAIL - 63.6% Nay]
The following chapters voted for this rule: New Hampshire, Gettysburg, Wisconsin, Las Vegas
The following chapters voted against this rule: Crossroads, Northeast Pennsylvania, Minnesota, California-Arizona, Virginia, Atlanta, Chicago

Synopsis of conversations: Arguments against included the concern that it would make it too easy for Earth scholars to obtain elemental typed damage, with the opinion that it should be harder for Celestial casters to obtain because it diminishes the value of Dragon's Breath Distillate. Further concerns included the ability having changed so dramatically that it should have precipitated an XP cost change, as well as pointing out that putting it behind Read Magic would make this change most impactful to characters who are disadvantaged by its double cost. Arguments for included the clarification that elemental is already accessible, though this change would maintain Spark being blockable since it does not append the "Strike" keyword.

Note: A subsequent vote has been crafted in cooperation with owners and ARC to update Spark and is currently up for vote.
