Armor

Looks like heavy leather to me, (so that's 2pt material) although of course can't tell that for sure until I could feel it. And it looks like it covers the upper arms and possibly upper chest as well. So if it covered the upper chest region that would be 2 regions, one of those regions being worth double. So if its 2pt leather (which it looks like) it would be worth 6pts of armor, otherwise if its only 1 pt leather 3pts.

Not to mention that's really pretty and would probably boost or keep up a full mastercraft/ingenre rating.

What about the metal plates riveted onto it? It is built for SCA combat, so I assume the leather is fairly thick.

yea that probably qualifies it as 2pt. I just couldn't be certain. It would have to be more than half plate metal to go up to 3pts per.

With just that thing? I'd give you... 4.

Remember, 2 points per location is heavy leather 10 oz or thicker, and according to the text there the heaviest that gets is 9 oz. If a marshal was being really nice, they might give you an extra point for the brass plate, or up it to 2pt per location because it is 'hardened' according to the seller, but I wouldn't expect more than 4 or 5 points out of the thing overall. I'm seeing : 1 point for upper arms, 2 points for upper chest (1 pt material, doubled for location), 1 point for back (half coverage).

The aluminum chain shirts from Thinkgeek are a better bang for your buck, and more points besides. :D

Between 6 and 13.
The leather is hardened, and in most places, doubled up. The doubling definately kicks it into the 2 point range. If you don't like that argument, hardened leather is 'non-metalic plate,' putting it in the 2 point range.
It covers upper arms and chest. Chest is doubled, so that's the 6.
The possible extra 1 is for partial back, but I can't get a good look at it.
The possible extra 6 are for master crafted and in-genre. Assuming you can back up that piece with a reasonable costume with no obvious anachronisms, you should probably get those points. While covering the shoulders/upper chest isn't huge on the 'physical' armor points, they're one of your more visible locations, so good armor there is the key to your 'rp' armor points.
~Matt,
Marshal

Matt, that sounds like a very well-reasoned description. 2 for the upper arms/shoulders, 4 for the chest, 1 for a third of the back. Is the master-craft and in-genre armor thing mostly a seat-of-your-pants estimate when it comes time to actually eye someone up at the logistics table and hand them a tag?

Mostly. Those things are an evaluation of the costume as a whole, rather then any one piece. They're subjective, but they shouldn't change much (if at all) from marshal to marshal in one chapter (they may change a few points between chapters).

I have yet to behold its 'master craftsmanship'

For all I know thats a doctored photo.

I will reserve the additional 2 points until such time as I can hit it with a greatsword.

Sounds like your armor inspections are painful affairs: "Hold still, I haven't even done the rhinoceros test yet!"

Oh it is hard to conceive how many players dread a "inspection" by JesseH...
