MUWAHAHAHAHA FIRST!!!!!
<<Guess who's at work on no sleep? Also... this is getting long>>
I had a good time. I was thinking back on the event on the drive home and wondering what I could have done differently/better. I am also planing for the next event, which is a good sign. I feel engaged in what is going on and that's a compliment to the plot team.
Here's my Good/Bad/Ugly
The Good:
Tim and his wife....Mary? Mandy? No, Mary. (my apologies I am terrible with names. I should have written that down) Anyway, you guys seemed to just jump right into things. That's really cool. Do you guys game in general? Table-top? MMORPGs? Tim was all about combat, and took advice and stuff on the fly really well. That's a great sign. I think he's the one who ran away as a Ebrindalian soldier? Awesome! We schmoe'd his friend and he scooted out. FANTASTIC! I had a cool roleplay moment with... Mary as the Village Elder. I rescued her and talked with her. I was expecting a timid new player with nothing to say, and she had a whole personality going on, and information. Seemed generally scared, really brought me into the situation. Good times. Big Thumbs Up for you guys. Hope to see you both back. Someone send them some babysitting options for that delightful kid of theirs.
I really liked the new site setup. Logistics in Cabin, with totally seperate NPC/Mod area. Seemed to work with the turnout. No need to overcomplicate things. Amy, great job logistizing. You had everything organized and ready to go. That is a great first experience in a chapter. If I was a new traveller and logistics goes smooth, it sets a tone. Well done.
One thought on the set-up: If it's cheaper to get the little cabins, what do you guys think about having that little village be 'town' The shower area could be the Tavern (with pool table), with plenty of guild buildings. But then I guess you lose all the mod space. If I had to choose between a cool town, and cool mods, I'd rather have cool mods. (but I am just one vote) However, then you could have an actual 'mod-building' but where would Amy cook then?
Plot Team: I like where things are going. I saw you guys using a lot of what Rob talked about at the meeting thing. That's outstanding. Keep it up!
Fun times on mods. That dwarven city time/undead thing was really great. It was really spot on for me, as far as statting goes for a midday mod. Not a cake walk, but not Arcane GTFO. Stragety was available and helpful, it had a story to it, roleplay, and lasting information with Duke's Keep thing. 4 stars.
I loved killing Vespa. I don't care she wanted it to happen or whatever IG. It was something the PC's said, "this is happening" and it happened. Felt good.
Wow. Tadron's negotiating skills. I have the best Guildmaster ever. Also kudos to plot for not plot-walling him and having it happen at a later event.
Bev: You run a ton of characters very well. I think I have to ignore the next named NPC you come out as. You are 'ALL' of my contacts with anyone. It's getting weird. Thanks for all the hard work.
I liked hanging out with Saifyn. I'll admit it was tough to not think of Dave as the Baron. But I like your alt as well.
Mason/Mike: Just one day? friggin' tease. Just when I get used to having fellow stick jocks against me, you leave. I know you guys have stuff going on, thanks for coming out for what you could. It's a better game with you guys in it.
Traps, very cool. Probably the single lasting thing that had us uneasy in town.
Great stuff going on, which was made better by hanging out with with my friends. I loved all the small inter-character filler stuff. Although I forgot about my Order thing to mess with Durk though.... next event. Happy to have you guys around.
-------------------------------------------------
The Bad: (none of this applies to Tim/Mary. We all know you're learning. Please return <3)
I feel I can make this criticism, because it is something I continually struggle with when NPCing. If you are popping multiple times: Please, please don't use that knowledge as a way to machine gun skills. If you feel yourself trying to get in your card's Eviserate or spellstrike before you drop you're probably forcing things. Play each pop as an individual guy, not a suicide bomber.
As a general rule, your first words after popping should not be "prepare to die."
Statting in general was kinda all over the map. It's a learning process, we all know that. Some things felt spot on (Time Dwarves) some things felt unnaturally scultped: Breakfast Ebrindale army, with ripostes, slays and Eviserates.... but no parries? That's how they train them? I understand from a plot standpoint, it's a great way to threaten our particular PC makeup. I get that, but it's a little eye-roll-ish IMHO.
Attacking the tavern in general: I don't like it at this campsite. It's not a tavern, it's a pavillion. It's a field battle with some tables around. If it were a building, and we had something to defend... ok. Then it would seem a little more heroic to protect the innocents. In that pavillion, you can just swarm things. It never seems to serve a purpose other then, "Hey let's send in X to use some PC resources." I get it's setting a tone of general mayhem. I feel that traps-dude did that in a much better way. (That reminds to add that into 'the good') Traps said, 'hey you're not safe' Breakfast army field battle says 'Your delicious burrito is going to get cold'
The house mod. This a bittersweet thing. I LOVE that you guys took the initiative to get something going. Well done. I HATE the fact that it wasn't to get the thing we were waiting on going. That would have a been a great mod, had it been hooked and we travelled out there. Getting it sprung on us was unpleasant, and as such makes us a harsher critic of the activity. The whole travel-hold/surprise you're ingame again/ surprise the town's right here was a little rough. Statting wise it was cool, had a nice like story going but it was just the method of hooking/forcing that really soured it for me. Whoever wrote that though, good job of mod-crafting.
---------------------------------------------------
The Ugly:
Durk's face
My fighting. I am very sorry. I was so uber geeked out being able to effect a fight meaningfully with weapons I know I was swinging too hard. If it makes you all feel better, it was because I was excited and having fun. If you EVER feel that I am swinging too hard/too fast. Tell me. Right then. It's the only way I'll learn. God knows I critique others enough I should be able to take some myself.
Treasure: I love me some 'Tadron Sunday' but it's almost comical the change in treasure output from Friday/Saturday to Sunday. I know we killed a dragon, but this goes back a few events. I am fine with it, but I can see it being a potential 'sore-spot' to travellers or people outside 'the know' Just something to think about.
----------------------------------------------------------
I think that's it. Overall, nice event. I had fun, I hit stuff, it was great. I only critique because I love, I hope it is coming off as constructive and not bitchy. I am truly looking forward to Sept.
