Bayenna and Rivervale clash on muddy field for 419 Corsith Cup!

It was a muddy mess of a game last week in Ambervale, where the reigning champion Bayenna took on Rivervale in the most anticipated bi-annual sporting event in Acanthia, the Corsith Cup. The status of the game itself was thrown into question when the Corsith unseasonably flooded, causing damage not only to towns and docks, but to other structures near the river as well. As such, the field in Ambervale was left in questionable condition, the visitor’s stands having sustained considerable damage from rushing water and debris.

Sir Eryx Blaz announced a postponement of the bi-annual match, much to the displeasure of fans, who have waited patiently to see their favorite players on the field. After much work, Sir Blaz came through, and the game was rescheduled.

The recent inclement weather was no deterrent for the fans at the cup, with both baronies showing up in force. Teams took practice reps on the field in the early morning and spent time with fans in the nearby festival grounds.. By the time the game was scheduled to begin, the Bayenna team had laid claim to the beer garden, and had drank most of the available beer.

Bayenna wasted no time in getting things started, with team captain Svein Wartooth scoring in the first quarter to a nearly undefended net. That success would not continue though, as early in the second quarter, a pass to forward Bjarni Jornsson bounced off his skull and was recovered by Tomain Burnscar and driven to the goal. Another unanswered goal would be scored as Bayenna goaltender Ulf Brungaard was absent from the field unexpectedly.

Pushing the advantage, Sir Kendrick Eisenhall led a lightning quick series of plays ending in the third unanswered goal in the second period.

Rivervale’s luck in having a drunk and disorderly Bayenna team would not hold, as the rival team came roaring back on to the field, outscoring Rivervale three to two in the third quarter. Later in the fourth, following a controversial call on Svein Wartooth for excessive clubbing caused the visitor’s stands to erupt in fury as Wartooth was ejected. The resulting chorus of boos was interrupted as all the stomping by the fans caused the north end of the stands to collapse into the mud. No one was injured, and the fans only used it to display their displeasure, as several were ejected for throwing pieces of the stands on to the field.

Despite this, Rivervale and Bayenna scored twice in the fourth, but for the visiting team it was not enough. This year the Corsith Cup heads to Rivervale!

I don't think I can recall seeing such an exciting match as this year's Cup! (I may also be experiencing some difficulties recalling parts of the victory party as well, but that's another matter.) Bayenna played very well. Three cheers to Jornsson and best wishes for a speedy recovery! Hail to Rivervale Coach Mad Dog Green, the victorious team, and its newest star, Sir Kendrick Eisenhal of Emberwatch!!

RIVERVALE!!!

P.S. E.N., I expect the usual bet will be paid up by spring? Good run this year!
