Bow Harnesses?

I have to admit, the rule against Having anything string-style on your bow is difficult. It means I can't just attach a strap and sling it over my shoulder.

My current plan is this (curse you... shoddy mouse drawings):

I would have my bag of packets that would be slung over my shoulder. The Back would have two shorter straps sewn to the front with heavy-duty velcro on the ends. When the bow isn't in use, I strap it to my bag.

Does anyone have a better way of doing this? The rep is a longbow and cannot be modified (it's a magic item, and the original owner of the rep wouldn't be happy with me if I butchered it) so no magnets or anything clever like that.

I also don't have much time/access to materials.

Any suggestion is helpful, thanks guys!

It would really be up to the local marshal, but I would think a small loop of sting (few inches around right where the hand would wrap around it) would probably pass.
Then use a cheap carabine off the side of your pack for the loop to hook to.
The trick then would be a quick release of the bow if drawing on the fly.

What I do: I have a strap that I attach to my belt that has snaps on the end, then I can snap my bow on and off. It's super quick. You could make one pretty easily out of fabric and sew on snaps from the fabric store. (mine is leather and riveted w/ leather snaps, but that's quite a bit more effort)

Here is an idea I came up with & will probably try :
1" wide webbing : http://www.rei.com/product/783605/1-mil ... ar-webbing $0.36/ft
1" wide cord locks : http://www.rei.com/product/612227/hi-te ... kle-1-inch $2
1" wide ladder lock : http://www.rei.com/product/612235/hi-te ... ock-1-inch $0.80

make a bandoleer of webbing around your body with some excess to add padding (go around costuming) as needed : est 6 feet with 1 ladder lock.
attach a short length of webbing to the top & bottom of the bow handle : est 1 foot tied for each.
attach a short length of webbing an equal length to the bandoleer : est 1 foot tied for each.
to each bandoleer secured lengths, attack a cord lock.

Rough cost: $7

I took a very large leather belt (like 46" waist), turned it into an over the shoulder strap, used 1" wide leather straps that I took from the free bin at the local leather store, and made loops to secure the belt and weapon together. I then just picked my weapon up, let the belt rotate around my body, and was able to fire my weapon without having to unharness it.

Also, you could do the magnet method of making a sheath that one of my local players was talking about on these boards. The magnets are hidden inside the foam, and then you have them stick to other magnets on the sheath
