Character Introductions

So I was thinking on how most new PCs just happen to wander into town at this Market Day, jump right into things and eventually become part of the town. Well, has anyone ever done any other methods of introduction? Some new players will come in knowing someone else, or looking for a certain person, or just be traveling by. Besides starting in "the tavern", what other methods have people done or seen? Has anyone worked with their local plot to have a different intro? (example: Meeting PC Bear Kin tied up by Goblins on a Goblin mod, and PCs just happen to find him by chance).

Would this be too cheesy? Would having to accommodate a new players special request cause too much work/time for the plot team of the chapter?

Just curious really,

Not cheesy...usually it takes some organization with Plot for something like that.

In our current Seattle campaign, anyone new to town has to be led into town by the town guard from a portal that is a few days travel from town.

My PC petitioned to speak with the Duke and received Ducal permission (witnessed by a Baron) to travel within the duchy borders before ever entering the game. Of course, neither the Duke nor the witnessing Baron were present at my first game, essentially nullifying the work I had done, but I made the effort.

As an added bonus, I didn't make it into the tavern before being stopped and detained by another Baron. Of course, that was probably because my character bore the markings of a soldier of an enemy nation.

When I finally introduce my Dark Elf the plan is to have him appear in the field mid-game. He'll stroll in like he was travelling and came across the town.
