So another event has come and gone, and I've been putting off bringing up the topic of cleanup for a while, but since we have another event coming up fairly quickly, it needs to be gotten to.
First, the good stuff. We did a good job of cleaning the bathrooms and the tavern. The only parts of the bathrooms that had any problems were broken toilets, which weren't our responsibility. The tavern floor was upkept throughout the event by the Fuzzy Mugs, which I think made the final sweep/mop job much easier. For future reference, (because those players won't be stuck with the task of upkeeping the tavern just because they feed us) the mops and buckets are to the back right of the tavern, brooms are in the closet in the main room (those mysterious two doors to the right of the hallway). You have to sweep before you mop, and each 'square' of concrete in the tavern needs a fresh bucket of mop water. Last event was good, but the task of sweeping/mopping will be passed to new people then did it last time.
We also did a pretty good job of keeping our trash off of the trails. Keep that up, it's a job that shouldn't be created as long as each person is responsible for themselves throughout the event. Someone(s) also did a good job with packet collection, I only found one during the walkthrough with the ranger.
Now the not so good stuff. Every cabin had to be re-swept. Every cabin. It's not because people didn't sweep the main area in each cabin, either, because they were mostly 'swept.'
For future reference, this is the best way to sweep the cabins:
1: Sweep the beds. Yes, the beds. The mattress part. There was a lot of dirt and pine needles and stuff on the mattresses. Do this even if the bunk wasn't even used.
2: Then, sweep under the beds. Even if you didn't put anything under them, sweep under them anyways.
3: Finally, sweep the rest of the room. Dump what you sweep up into the trash, not just out the door and off of the porch. We found a lot of little "used" flags from tags in front of buildings, and I'd bet that this is how they got there. A little dirt in the trashcan isn't a problem, a little trash in the dirt is.
Numbers 1 and 2 were why every cabin had to be re-swept. People did number 3. It's two extra minutes per cabin that adds up really fast when it's just one person doing it.
The bathroom in the Logistics cabin wasn't cleaned. If you're staying in a cabin with it's own bathroom (Logistics or any of the ones behind the tavern) that bathroom is your responsibility, just like the rest of the cabin. I don't care if 60 people wander through the place (like Logistics, for example), you signed up to clean that bathroom when you decided to stay in that building.
Finally, the grease traps weren't cleaned. I know, it's not really a thing that's exclusive to our group. Apparently, the Ranger is really picky about the details, so whenever he notices something, he wants it cleaned. He just happened to notice the grease traps. If you see something left a mess, even if our group didn't do it, assume we're going to be asked to clean it anyways. Just assume it's our turn to be stuck with it, since we don't do it every time.
So, for the most part, pretty good. Watch the sweeping, and it'll be even better next time.
