Ruki

Scholar
Ruki once again found himself at the Lux Arcane Sanctum going over some notes he had scribbled down, hoping to track down anything he could that could conceivably make an entire village vanish. He had agreed to assist Ellie in this endeavor over the winter while following up on some of his own things (specifically, a spirit forge catalyst) but has had limited amounts of luck. Just as he was sure he was about to have a breakthrough (totally for real, this time)... a knock was heard from the door.

"Warmage Lanark?" a voice called out.

"Come in," the human beckoned.

It was a messenger, with two letters addressed to him. While he was using traditional methods of searching for information, he was also using more... out of the box solutions, things that others may consider 'legally gray'. But it was for the greater good, and the ends justified the means. Ruki took the letter, gave the messenger a tip and sent him on his way. He thought to himself that just a few years ago he was in a similar position, a messenger... and now look at him! the first letter he opened came from a friend at the Calanhelm Sanctum, informing Ruki about the entirety of Cadnia going missing, and that they just wanted to keep him informed. The War Mage had heard whispers about it, but didn't look too much into it. It was certainly curious, and he wondered if this had anything to do with Ellie's missing village as well.

The second letter caught him off guard. It was from an old friend he had not seen in years who left Calandonia for New Acarthia. Going over the missive, his heart sank at what was written... surely it must have been some form of prank? She was always known as a prankster. But, scanning over all the lines, there was nothing he could find that would indicate anything in these words were in jest. He tucked the letter into his back pocket and got up to splash some water on his face to help waken him from the daze that his friend's letter had left him in. As Ruki watched the water droplets fall down his face in the mirror, he noticed how unkempt he looked... months of study and searching and schmoozing with scumbags had left him with little thought of his own health and appearance. If the words written in the letter were true, he would want to make sure he at least looked presentable.

After arriving home and tending to his grooming needs, Ruki emerged to the brisk almost-spring morning, ready for what trials and tribulations spring and summer had in store. The Dark Reaches, Cadnia, saying goodbye and whatever else would be met head on! And it seems it would be sooner than expected, as he heard shouting from the commons.
