Computer modem game installation question thingie

If I am using an ethernet card to connect to the web through a cable, will that show up in my list of modems in Windows?

You see, I just bought a game called Drakensang and it doesn't work, and the error message I get says "Couldn't initialize Drakensang's audio sub system. This may be due to a known problem with so-called software modems. If a software modem is installed on your PC (e.g. "IBM Thinkpad Modem"), please removed via the "Phone and Modem Options" ...if that doesn't solve the problem please get in touch with our technical support."

As you may guess, there is no phone number or email for technical support, just a web page that doesn't answer my question.

And, of course, I have no modems installed -- except my cable modem. Does that count?

Anyone else have any suggestions?

Your cable modem does not count, as it is not installed on your computer, but separate. Generally, when you connect with an ethernet cable, it doesn't count as a modem.

Sorry I can't help with your overall problem, though.

Well, that does help, because it means I can delete the installed modem and still be able to get online!

EDIT: Yep, removing the modem had no effect on being able to get online and allowed me to play the game. Thanks!

Sweet.

Generaly in a Windows environment Mike, the device in your machine which broadband internet (wireless or via a ethernet cable) is called a "Network Adapter". The "modem" you were seeing is the old 56k modem used for dial up and some other esoteric fuctions you don't do.

Glad you were able to get it it work, just thought I'd let you know what its called.
