Event Reviews and Summaries

I was just wondering why so few of you actually fill these out/send these in? They are very helpful to us, yet fewer and fewer people send them in. It is okay say you did not like something. If we don't know that the majority of people don't like logic puzzle mods (for example) then we will probably continue to put them out. The summaries are very helpful tools for plot in keeping things streamlined, keeping us informed, and in general makes our life easier.

Why are people not doing these things? Apathy? People feel plot should have as little influence with PCs as possible? People are just too busy? People don't find the feeback specific enough? etc?

I would really appreciate some imput on this topic.

For me, its all about the lack of time. The moment I get home from an event I am thrown into tests, homework I put off to go to the event, and working. Openning up a two day stretch of time to go play the event has gotten really hard, so therefore the time between them I spent very little time thinking about them, so that I am able to go to the next one. Its something I feel bad about, as I am a big supporter of requesting summaries, and feedback. One suggestion I have, at least for other people in my boat, is I know people spend alot of time sometimes standing around after the event up in the parking lot. Maybe print out some of the forms and have people fill them out by hand. That way the information is on their mind, and obviously they are still there, so they have time. I know that would make me much more likely to give feedback.

I do find that there are some answers that just don't fit for me and I end up answering with the middle one because that rings as "default" in my mind. For instance, I can see a lot of treasure go out and know that it went out there, but not get any of it myself for one reason or another. Then I just don't really know how to answer the questions related to treasure, so I end up opting for the middle road.

You can always leave that part blank and then give your specific thoughts on it in the notes section; or even put it in the middle ground and then give your thoughts.

I usually do an event review and fill out the feedback form, but for this last event, I had work at 10pm that Sunday night on through to 9am Monday morning, then four more nights like that in a row. I will be working days after this upcoming one, and in the foreseeable future, so I promise to be a good kid and do the deed again. :)

That's usually what I do... I just don't like doing it. *shrug* I'm picky.

Didn't do it this time cause I just lost track of time. Usually do it though.

I agree. Most of the posters so far are those who do regularly contribute.

oOo ^__^ I shall do it more often now =D definetly for this november event. And hopefully all the ones after that ^__^

my excuse

My excuse is that I didn't feel I played long enough to really give any good data on the event. We turned back Friday because the gate was down, and didn't go into game until around 7 on Saturday, and I slept through game on Sunday morning.

Once I play through a regular event from Friday to Sunday and feel I can give fair feedback, I'll be sure to fill out the form.

I *try* to give feedback that's useful, but between work and life outside of NERO, I get sidetracked. And if and when I get around to doing it, I always wish I could leave/better feedback, but either don't remember everything or don't have time to include everything.

I'll keep trying though!

Speaking of feedback, did the radios arrive today like they were supposed to? Or do I need to bug UPS? :)

Signed, sealed, and delivered. Thanks!

did you have to ask?

Seattle is 50/50 on doing anything about it. (Some of which is not the current regime's fault.)

That's why the last two events I haven't written anything.

I write songs, treatises, stories, even histories... but for the most part I keep them to myself, since anything I send to you all that doesn't have certain indicia attatched to it becomes Mike Ventrella's property.

Basically, whenever I have written something, most people have ignored it.

I have *one* response from the dozens of pages I have sent, posted, etc.

Also, my writeups tend to be lists of the same activities over and over again,

Drinking
Fighting
Wenching
Drinking
Trash talking
Wenching
Wenching
Fighting
Cooking dinner (Breakfast)
Drinking
Trash talking
Drinking
Wenching

So, that's why I am loath to do writeups.

I"m not talking about in between game actions (IBGA), but summaries of what happened to your character at an event.

After the event I will send you an email about your concerns with that issue, or talk to you about it at the event if you guys are coming up. I haven't heard from any CA folks, so I don't know one way or the other.

Focusing on just this comment in particular...

Personally I get much better reception from things I write in-game. Polare has a treatise on small group fighting as well as a primer on Celestial magics that he has shown to a number of people at events and gotten feedback about.

Why not try posting one of your poems/songs up in the tavern each event? Why not distribute your treatise among those whom you think need it the most? Things like this, in my experience, will get you a far bigger response than anything posted in the forums here, at least from players. There simply are not that many players that visit these forums regularly.

Okay, too true. When I say CA Folk I am talking about people from the old SF chapter, my bad! I will be more clear in the future! Also, we are pleased as punch that you are coming!

Nor was I.

I have sent in feedback and summaries; so if you haven't been receiving them, that may explain why nothing happened.

From what you posted, I think that may be the case.

Admittedly, there is at least one writeup I sent in that was late by two weeks or more.

Also, it's not just NS, the issues I have with writeups come from other boffer larp experiences as well.

Just because you run the chapter and you're all my friends doesn't mean I still don't hold NERO accountable for what it does. (I had this same conversation with Steve, for instance.)

Having been a CS and Tech makes me exactly the kind of consumer we all hate dealing with at work.

I have had bad experiences with NERO, and NS is best at 50/50 (two of four) which, as stated above, may have just been user error on my part. (My dex + hotmail must have atrophied)

I can offer an opinion, also (so as to be constructive this time) about your question.

I think that people just get caught up in life, and even people who claim their life is Gaming get tired of writing when they have 4 other papers due that week. I think it's the same reason people miss events, it is just easier to forget about writing a little than it is to forget about getting to go kill stuff at miller.

People intend fully to write them up, it just gets lost in the day to day.

Another thought is that some people just don't know how or where to start, or are ashamed of their writing skill (which is most of the time totally unjustified.)

Some people are pretty secretive about their event experiences, but I don't think that would be the reason... if anything, I could feed you more misinformation through event summaries than anywhere else.

I could punish *you* for metagaming :P

Of course, now I've totally blown it for all of you :D

Always helpful, except in emergencies;
-Gid
