question for the top brass

with wilkes barre being evactuated and all the flooding going on, the highways being closed, and the river not expected to crest until fri night/saturday morning... do you antcipate the event still happening?

what about the creek on site?

i know i couldnt come to the event anyway, but i have friends in the area who had planned to go and i want to make sure they have the most up to date info.

I'm sure the creek area will be flooded and so muddy we can't use it and the field will probably be too wet to mow, but we're up in the mountains and should be fine. The problem, of course, will be getting there with some of the roads closed. :(

So far, it's still on. We'll post here if not.

thanks mike. i am trying to get alternate routes together for the lower PA guys to see if they can find a way there. we'll see what happens.

I know down here in the Milton/Lewisburg/Northumberland area, just about all the roads are closed/flooded. Even I-80 is shut down here. Unless the water goes down, not only here, but in the northern tier too, there is no possible way we can get there from here. I had to reschedule an interview that was supposed to be today because I can't get across the river, and there's really no way out of Milton at this point...

Im still game for comin up!

I'm trying to figure out a way to get to the site if 81 is closed in the Luzerne County area. What routes do other people take to get to the site? perhaps from the east or west? or take the turn pike north, then turn back down?

I come from the west. I turn north at 180 and then take back highways for the rest of the trip. I have no clue if any of that is flooded out.

This is what I posted on FB: I strongly encourage all of my LARP friends to consider weighing reality against fantasy this weekend. While the site may be on a hill and should be relatively safe from the flooding, the routes there will most likely not be safe. You don't get the chance to resurrect in real life. Just saying.

There will be other games. Keeping the event scheduled will only encourage people to travel when they should probably be heeding the advisory warnings in many places. Alliance HQ is big on safety, and it should definitely extend to an issue like this. Call me a worried mother, or what you will, but it just doesn't seem worth the risk. Not to mention... it's a tournament event. Unless the tournament is switching to card playing, there is only so much you can do indoors, and in serious rain. *shrug*

Mike let me know what you want to do. ill be leaving first thing in the morning to get to site but im in a situation like others im unsure of a safe way to get there

No matter what happens - be safe, guys. Don't push yourselves to get through unsafe places and put yourselves and others at risk.

Actually, hey - if anyone had to vacate their house due to flooding or found themselves evacuated in/near Philly, we have a decent chunk of floor space. Get in touch. Donna and I can house you, feed you, and clean you for as long as you need.

What Kris said. It may be tricky just getting to Philly but we're perfectly happy to shelter anyone who needs it -- although I say you clean yourself, I'm not up for sponge bath nurse duty. :P

Most of the back mountain highways are flooded out and several bridges are either closed or washed away. I really don't think we would be able to easily get to the site. Most of the counties/roads that we (Amy, Drew, Joe, I) travel through to get to HQ are either in the evacuation zone, have travel bans in effect, or are just plain flooded out. Personally I think it would be safer to just reschedule or cancel... :/

Lots and lots of roads are flooded or washed out. I know around here Hershey Med Center is almost inaccessible.

Word of advice: even if the water doesn't look that deep do NOT drive through it. You can't tell if the roadway has been washed away or has sunk further underwater. There have already been 4 flood related fatalities in this area which is more than the hurricane. Only one of which was due to a building collapse the rest were swift water related. Please please please be careful on your drives. I know right now I-80 is closed from Lickdale to Pine Grove and the water is not due to crest until later this week.

I assume you mean I-81.

200 state roads in northcentral Pennsylvania are currently experiencing partial closures. 80, 81, tons of them.

I've gotta agree, maybe it's also my mom-ness, but it seems like a bad plan. Having had massive flooding up our way post-Irene, I can say you DON'T want to chance it. Random things can happen and close out even more roads, if the rain isn't looking to stop soon you could be stuck there because the route you took in is no longer available.

A couple of weeks ago, we had 2 bridges to the north left open, then a barge broke free with a 50ft crane on it & the current carried it into one of the bridges. Traffic up that way was an extreme nightmare due to the shift of 7 other routes to a single viable route. Not to mention the power outages, boil water alerts and various other fantastically fun after-effects.

No matter what, be safe everyone! Make the best decisions for you, just as an FYI our news is buzzing with the Binghamton area being a lake, so those headed down via 81/88/86 might expect MASSIVE traffic, we're hearing tales of drives from other offices taking 5x as long as expected.

Yeah. If you check out wnep.com they have a list of all the roads that are closed in NEPA.
