Future new player saying hi!

Innogen

Newbie
Hi, my name is Kristina. This organization seems really cool, and I'd love to maybe come out and NPC the next time there is an event. I've larped previously, but not on the level that Alliance seems to be. My old larp was sci-fi themed, held once a week, and based on a college campus. The weekend long events you guys hold seem really amazing, but also kind of intimidating. Does anyone know approximately when the next event might be? Also, are there ever any meetups in between events? If anyone happens to live in the Kitsap area, it would be really cool to meet some of you in person. Any advice for a newb?

Hi there, Kristina! My name is Evan, and I'm one of the new player reps for Alliance-Seattle, and happy to field your questions.

If you think of any others you'd like to ask before your first game, feel free to also send them to newplayer@alliance-seattle.com, where they'll be received and answered by myself and Chloe Monroe. I noticed that you stated you'd like to NPC at your first game, and you'll likely have the pleasure of working with her, since she's a regular NPC for our great game, and no doubt has lots of tips to offer you, too. :)

Our 2014 current schedule is found here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7486

The next event is April 4 - 7th, at Millersylvania State Park ELC. Most of our events run Friday - Sunday, but this is a long weekend that runs to Monday. You aren't obligated to stay the entire event if you aren't able to, of course. :)

Alliance-Seattle doesn't really have officially scheduled meetups or anything like that, though sometimes players are happy to meet up with interested potential players to help explain things.

Advice! There is much. First, I've LARPed for about 13 years, and I've had the pleasure of meeting many people in this unique hobby of ours. The Alliance community is exceptionally welcoming, and while you're likely to be overwhelmed at first, we'll never embarrass you for it. We're a goofy, crazy group of people who want to have fun, and we want you to have fun, too.

If you NPC, bring black clothes you can be mobile in, lots of socks, and footwear that'll stand up to some abuse. It can be muddy and wet in places, and you'll want good support and traction. We have a pretty decently priced food plan that NPCs can buy into, so you won't even have to pack food. You'll be provided with all props/weapons you'll need, as well.

Also, check us out on our FB page (look for Alliance Seattle). :)

Let us know if you have any other questions, we're happy to help!

Silly me, I also forgot this.

This is the link here you can download a free copy of our rulebook. It's large, and it's got tons of information in it, so if you have questions, it's totally understandable. Protip: At your first game, we have a small "new player introduction" after Opening Ceremonies at the beginning of each game, where we cover the basics. Also, as an NPC, you'll be told how stuff works, and you'll pick up the rules over time.

Hi Kristina,

My name is Norman. Evan forgot to mention that there is also an Alliance Oregon chapter that will be having a game in March. Im sorry I dont know the days but Alliance has a main national board www.alliancelarp.com/forum that has some useful information as well.

Welcome Kristina! I'm the Chloe that Evan mentioned :). If you're interested in NPCing we would be honored to have you and I would be happy to talk to you about what you can expect in Alliance Seattle's NPC "Monster" camp.

As Evan said; all it really takes to be an NPC is a couple of changes of black clothes, bedding/toiletries and an good attitude. We provide all the costumes and masks/make-up for your NPCs. However, if you have any extra garb, props or costume bits that you don't plan on using for a PC character, please feel free to bring them with you as well!

Downloading the free rulebook and giving it a glance or two (particularly the section about NPCing specifically) is a great suggestion, but don't feel bad if you can't master it all before the game ;). As an NPC most of the info you need will be given to you and there will always be people around who can help or answer questions that are super nice.

Alliance Oregon has a game from MARCH 7-9 so if you have the chance I would highly recommend it if only because many of our Seattle player base also attends that chapter. Here's a link to the Facebook Event for that game: https://www.facebook.com/events/1432835520281218/

Anyway, if you have any questions or just wanna chat about ideas that you may have all of my contact information is linked in my signature. I really look forward to meeting you!
