Guest Writer Event

So... some of you have been sending in plot ideas, snippets, fishbowls, mods, etc...
Now is the time to shine... For the July event, we are taking ideas from guest writers who want to run a mod, encounter, or even a series of encounters. Some of you have already done so... the riddle mod that ran this weekend, the graveyard statue mod that ran last event, and a slew of donated fishbowls.

Send them to Plot@AllianceDenver.com so the team can discuss them. Be prepared to show up to npc a shift at the July game if you want to see it in action.

Keep in mind, the plot team reserves the right to deny or make changes based on a myriad of factors... make sure you know the local food chain... try to come up with something original that doesn't affect any existing plotline... don't target friends... and have fun! We will still be running our already scheduled plotlines, but the more the merrier!

I am totally interested in volunteering for this! Can you give us some more extensive guidelines on the level of detail you're looking for in submissions? Just bullet points of ideas, or full module write-ups? If so, should we include just monster descriptions like "goblins", or suggest full stats and recommended treasure?

Do you have a standard form for your storylines and modules for your plot writers that we can use?

Trace

Trace, I can send you a format I have been using that I got out of the Rulebook if that would help?

That is probably the best one... I don't want to pigeonhole anyone into a format if they don't like it though... so I will say this...
Type of Encounter: (Module, Fishbowl, ENC)
A module is a one hour quest where a hook comes in, asks for help, and goes to x location. It can be a series of rooms/encounters with a resolution.
Fishbowls are usually RP only encounters that take place in the tavern primarily but don't have to. There is usually no resolution, but they provide RP and flesh out the world. They can happen whenever and are not tied to anything else.
ENC- similar to fishbowls but they can be tied to something else, can be resolved, can have multiple stages, and can occur anywhere you need them to.

Include # of NPCs, Location, Type of Encounter (above)
They should not be bullet points of ideas, they should be full write-ups, including why this is happening. Monster descriptions like "goblins" are fine. However, don't suggest advancements or promotions of any existing plotlines. Do not suggest stats unless making up a new creature. If doing so, please do so well in advance for timely approval. Do not suggest treasure. Please include if you would like to run it and what time would be best for you at the event.

When in doubt, consult the Rule Book like Zach said. Hope this helps! ;-)

I will concentrate my efforts on Rogue modules, and 1-person fishbowls, especially for non-combat or novice NPCs thus requiring little interaction with the rules/combat system.

I'm working on NPC-Camp-Less "modules" that only needs the PNPCs to introduce and pay out that requires like one person to make some props and set some stuff up before game starts. I'll prolly ask you some questions about this style this weekend.

I understand the "Do not suggest treasure" aspect, but can we suggest at least something minimum payout wise, and social RP rewards, so its worth the player's efforts?

Social RP rewards are fine, but don't suggest any other treasure in your writeups. We are looking for cool content mainly

The oddly named "fishbowls" are what I'd call mini-encounters for 1 or just a few NPCs, disconnected from the main campaign plot, which tell little episodic stories which exist on their own merits.

I believe the name comes from a literal fishbowl, out of which the NPCs draw these little quickies.

Yea exactly they are quick NPC guidelines usually for playing a non combat NPC for role playing flavor. They also happen to be a lot of fun as an NPC to play. I really enjoyed playing an irate farmer because my neighbor (also an NPC on the fishbowl) had an illegal distillery and my kid came home drunk.
