Over the month following the dramatic fall in the value of pecans, frequenters of the tavern at Landfall find themselves repeatedly subject to both the gypsy Yenu's bellowing of the following verses and her enthusiastic demands for coin:
"Shibboleth, she rules now:
Finally she is queen!
Adorned all in jewels, how
Lovely is her feathers' sheen!
She needs to be mated;
A dragon shall be her king.
To Wystlin she's related,
So I came here searching.
Roan is a fighter.
She loves woodland creatures.
Corpses pile behind her
And her lovely facial features.
Roan is an elf now
So that true love may be.
She swore a solemn vow
Someday to have baby.
Hail the Lord Arannin
If you hear him coming!
Probably you won't, though,
Unless he is humming.
He is fond of leather,
Fonder still of Roan.
Any who would death her,
He shoots an arrow in.
Kiarra is a dryad.
She was not always, her
Past race changes myriad
Did not seem to faze her.
She is good in flower and leaf
And generous in feeling,
But if you are a lying thief
She won't give you healing."
At this point, Yenu always announces that she has more to sing about Kiarra because she is great.
"Kiarra is vital,
Outcasts other casters.
She deserves landed title,
But has none yet, those bastards-in-Andar.
Nepeta's a dryad, too,
He is just a child.
Mr. Dryad's brave and true,
But his tongue runs wild.
Mr. Dryad slept for years
Underground where it's dark.
He sprouts mushrooms in his ears
When you compliment his bark.
Ifthikaar is snooty,
But he is not evil.
He distributes loot, he
Guards against upheaval.
Do not mess with Iftikhaar,
He has swords to beat you.
He is very manly;
Don't let his hat mislead you.
Jack has legs like chickens--
That's where he got his nickname--
They must be mighty big hens
From whence a Jack-sized chick came.
I do not know Jack that well,
But he is a good guy,
Plus his hat is very swell--
Someone should bake him a pie.
Chicken Leg Jack's a father,
He brought forth Jack Junior.
He's young but he's no bother,
Till sugar makes him loonier.
Jack Junior can heal in fights--
Enemies take warning!--
But he needs to sleep at night.
We'll try to live till morning!
Dassio's a normal guy,
Smarter than he looks.
His brain cells multiply,
I think he reads books.
After bouts of violence,
Sometimes he'll get tipsy.
Then, despite all evidence,
He'll think he's a gypsy.
Itzaak is my brother,
Hates orcs who made him slave, he's
Handsome like no other
And popular with ladies.
Itzaak, Itzaak, Itzaak,
He is smart and cunning!
Itzaak, Itzaak, Itzaak, Itzaak,
Sends the bad guys running!
Prashka is a Roma girl
Who knows her family duty.
When she gives her skirts a whirl,
You're overcome by beauty!
Prashka can use magic,
She kicks butt in battle.
She's stubborn and stra-tag-ic,
She likes to eat cattle.
Fero is the odd one,
Oftentimes foolhardy,
He just wants to have fun.
That man sure can party!
Wanders off all by himself,
Gaijin think he's funny.
Dresses better than an elf:
He's a good Romani!
Yenu is the best of all,
She knows you all missed her.
Smart and young and sweet and tall--
Welcome back your sister!
Now this song she must abort.
Give gold if you will, her
Capital has come up short;
She also takes silver."
Yenu makes it known around the town that she is available for commissions, but that she will soon be departing to travel around earning her keep by singing of her heroic friends once she can afford a wagon or a ride.
