Hero

At least a few people wanted to read the poem I wrote for the Ducal Ball. It is titled "Hero".

Can you see the field below?
As the sun shines so violently
As the dwarves battle valiantly
The trolls' ferocity you can never know

All through the day rages the battle
Blood meets field and the grass it does stain
On troll spears many brave stalwarts are slain
The dwarven heroes, they will not rattle

On they fight and many trolls are slain
Their blood spills into field hot and dry
Blood makes mud as the earth does cry
The earth churns and all feel its pain

A death spell is thrown, the dwarven king does fall
All but one are sure the battle is lost
Tears mix with mud and blood for great was the cost
Yet the king may be saved by the greatest of all

Can you see Finnegan, young and brave?
This dwarven hero loves his people true
With spells that never miss many trolls he fights through
The hero reaches his king and with a life spell does his majesty save

His courageous heart rallies dwarven soldiers this day
The hero saves his people but with his life he does pay

The king clutches his hero's bloody hand
He holds it against his breast
He cries! The trolls have taken our very best
This hero is lost and justice we demand

The dwarves are inspires and all the trolls they kill
Huzzah to Finnegan the hero for his story inspires us still
