Hey Seattle

Newbie
Friend of mine and I were looking at coming down to Seattle from Vancouver to do some LARPing, as the scene up here isn't what we're really seeking. Just have a few questions about Alliance Seattle.

May event. Can't find any information on it. Anyone have a link to a topic with info, or care to elaborate?

How many players usually come to an Alliance Seattle event?

How noobie friendly is Alliance Seattle? Neither my friend or I have done any actual LARPing before. Do we need to attend any combat training, or can that be done preceding the event?

Safety? We're taking a stab at making our own weapons. We're using foam, about the density of 45LD Plastazote, to carve blades, which are then cored with graphite golf clubs (minus the heads). The final blade will be coated with liquid latex, which will probably be covered with something like talcum powder or that latex covering thingy. I checked the Alliance BRB, and will be sure to use at least 5/8" thick foam on all striking surfaces.
Does this sound like it'd pass your marshal's standards?

Thanks for your time!

Hello there!

For our May Event, the description of the plot itself is still forthcoming. However, the event is the opening of a new campaign, so it's a great time to join in as a first event! Our site will be Millersylvania State Park ELC. People tend to arrive around 5-6pm. The address is on the website.

Our Event Price List can be found here. Your first event is 50% off the listed price. For example, if you pre-register, but do not pre-pay, the normal price is $55. You would pay $27.50 for your first event.

The Pre-Pay list and information for this event can be found here.

The Pre-Registration list for May 2014 can be found here.

As for coming as a newbie, I think that this is a great time to do so, since it is a campaign-opener. It will allow you some time to familiarize yourself with the new plot! To help prepare you, here is a link to our rule book. The rule book also contains the information needed to create weapons!

I am sure that one of our New Player Representatives will be on this forum shortly to get in touch and say welcome, but you can also contact them at newplayer@alliance-seattle.com.

Welcome!

Emily

Hello!

I'm Evan, one of the New Player Reps for Alliance-Seattle. Glad to hear you're interested in our game!

Thanks to Emily for pretty much giving you everything I would have.

Regarding your weapons, in theory, I'm not hearing anything that would inherently disqualify them, though I strongly recommend making extra if you can afford to, in the event one doesn't pass, or breaks at site, since you implied this might be a new thing for you to make.

I've done LARPing for almost 14 years, and Alliance is my fifth. It is extremely new-player friendly as far as the community is concerned. The rules take some time to get used to in practice, as we have a fairly comprehensive ruleset. That being said, we are far from an elitist playerbase, and we love to see new players bring their enthusiasm into our game. It makes it a better time for all of us.

Please feel free to fire any questions you might have at that new player email that Emily provided. :-)
