Hello all,

I was hoping to attend a NERO event soon and I just have some questions. I will apologize in advance as I'm sure that the answers are somewhere on this site, but I just haven't found them yet. Firstly what are the costs for a weekend? NPC and PC. Also is there somone I should contact about attending? Is there a registration or membership process I must go through first? I am thinking of NPCing an event or two first but if I should find myself writing a character history, whom do I send it to? I do have a NERO handbook I picked up a while ago so I'll read up on that. The system I used to play was a hit location one but I'm sure I can pick up this one. Also, what time does everyone arrive at events? What is the usual attendance at an event?

Well thats all I can think of right now. Thanks for any help anyone can offer. I did see the manager@neroseattle.com address, but I was not sure what that was for.

Take care,
Jason

Hello, and welcome.

A few answers for your questions:

1. Costs are based on event location, but usually run about $60 for a weekend to PC (with a slight discount if you preregistrer; i.e. tell them you're coming and what your character will be preparing for the event). The cost to NPC is minimal (< $20 I believe, though someone else can answer this better).

2. Plenty of us will be happy to help you prepare via this forum, but your official character registration and background should go to logistics@neroseattle.com -- fortunately for you the manager@neroseattle.com address goes to the same person right now :)

3. You may want to ensure you have the *right* NERO rulebook. Not only are there many versions of the NERO rulebook for our system, there is a completely separate NERO International system with similar but different rules. The current one that all NERO Alliance chapters run by is the NERO Alliance rulebook, 9th edition. If you have a previous NERO Alliance book, most of the stuff will still be correct but there will be a few important differences. If you have a NERO International rulebook, there will be many important differences.

4. Most people usually arrive on site about 6 PM or so, and game tries to get started by 8 or 9. Attendance at most NERO Seattle events varies from 40 to 70 or so people.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the help Bryan,

So the handbook I have says "NERO Rule Book" on the front. It says 8th edition on the side. It is all black with a montage of pictures on the front and back. I am guessing it is the NERO international version. Is there a cheap easy way to attain the 9th edition alliance version?

Also does NERO seattle have a yearly membership fee required to attend events? Can I just show up to NPC?

Thanks again,
Jason

HI and welcome...

Bryan pretty much told you everything you wanted to know. But there is a membership fee...but I forgot how much it is.

Welcome!

We do have a yearly membership which we will be posting about soon. There is sadly not a cheap and easy why to get a 9th ed. book. It is out of print and the 10th ed is coming soon, so the best advice there is to try and borrow one. We always welcome NPCs!

And for your background, go ahead and send that to plot@neroseattle.com.

You can also PM me if you want to talk character stuff.

Jason,

As Jim notes it's not terribly cheap and there is a new one on the way. Perhaps someone with an extra copy would sell it for cheap to you, but if I were you I'd hold off for now and try and go without until the new book comes out. Where are you located? Someone on here would be happy to help you out in person if you're nearby them and want to look through the rules or talk about your character or whatever. I'm sure many of us would also be happy to help you out via IM or some such.

Wow thanks for all the fast resposes. I appreciate the time to help me out. I live in Bellevue right now and would certainly be greatful of anyone loaning me the right book. And it would certainly help to talk with somone about this chapter. Hopefully I will be able to get in touch with somone. But in any case I hope to make this Ocotber or November game to NPC and get a feel for NERO.

Come hit the gameday at Hamlin park this coming Sunday. I always try to bring my book.

Yeah the gamedays are always fun. Come and join. I will try to remember to bring my rulebook...if ya come.

Concerning the schedule...

Like all organizations, NERO Seattle has its quirks. One of them is that the formal schedule isn't always up-to-date with respect to game days, but they are almost always posted in the OUT OF GAME forum, and sometimes in the Announcements forum. So be sure to always check in all three places.

Similarly, cancellations are generally posted in the Announcements forum, and not on the schedule itself (though they may show up there). So always check the schedule and the forums before you leave for an event to make sure it is still on.

Thank you Jacquelyn and Diera, unfortunatly I am already booked up for this Sunday, but I hope I can take you up on a future game day. A game day would be perfect as it only requires freeing up one day. I will be sure to check for cancelations, thanks for that advice Rodge. In any case I hope to be at an event or game day soon.
Thanks again.
