High ogres: Yellow? Really?

Ok, so I always thought that yellow was a terrible color for just about anything, especially a PC race.
Now I'm considering playing a High Ogre tertiary, or quaternary if I don't hack a character to do it (and yes, that's really the word for the next one in the sequence), and I'm looking at my makeup and prosthetic options. I'm getting a beast mask from northfur (I've heard good things, and I like the look), and know how I'm going to do the hair and costuming, but I really don't like the idea of being sunshine yellow (I've seen too many Kermit Green orcs for one lifetime). While I accept that my primary coloration must be yellow (racial requirement and all) how much leeway is there to stray a little orange-ish? With the tusks, the prosthetic, the hair, and other costuming/mannerisms, it should be blatant that the character is an ogre type. Since it's primarily yellow (and not at all green), I think it would be obvious at a distance what the race of the character is even if the yellow is darker and strays into orange territory in shadows and crevices, but I've never seen a (non-newbie) player play a high ogre to know if that's an accepted embellishment.
Thoughts?

Yellow, red, and orange tends to be facial makeup for fire elementals and the like, in my experience. The problem with going off-color in any real sense is that it is going to become harder for people to recognize you as a High Ogre at first glance, and therefore (if people are not metagaming) may lead to random beatdowns.

Do fire elementals have tusks? Not any I've seen anyways... ;)

Fireborn Ogres in Caldaria do... But that's not really the point.

I have been on the receiving end of PC *** kickery because of costuming before. It does not pay to be a black character in all black at night when the black humanoid shaped monsters attack. That aside, you have to be yellow.

You have to be recognizably yellow at first glance. I would not call you on small highlights here and there. If you have seen some of the pictures of our orcs on the east coast, they often 'blacken' their eyes with soot. To distinguish themselves from non-high orcs.

I would have no issue with something similar. The issue would be with changing the base color too far from Yellow, or putting so many highlights and markings that it becomes difficult to tell that you are a Ogre with some weird crap on your face.

The best obvious solution, would be to do your makeup, and then ask for approval from your local game. Or throw up a pic online, and see what people think. If you do the second I reserve the right to give you **** about whatever is in that picture for absolutely imaginary reasons.

Wait, what did you think I said...? :)

Yeah the bottom line is that you have to be instantly recognizable as your particular race, so if people are going "What the heck is that orangy thing?" you're obviously not.

Sometimes I like you.

Ok comming from a guy who has played ogres since early 90's. I find what works best for makeup is, use benNye water based liquid dilute it with water so it is around 70%makeup/30%water, then to that add a few drops same brand type orange an drop or two of white. What this produces is a nice deep yellow, that is rich but not really yellow or neon highlighter yellow (which i think looks really bad)(worse then kermit orcs imho), the real trick is to do several coats of this lighter wash rather then Cake on makeup. It looks like more "natural" type skin and not like a painted human. then finish it off with a clear coat liquid ( I have tried several brands, and for a finisher not noticed a lot if difference) ( I find the powder finish is not as good and throws off the non makeup looking effect I go for.) have never had a problem with this sweating off etc in even in California or Texas summers wearing plate on top of chain and end result is it is definitely yellow enough to be instantly recognized as a High Ogre, yet looks really nice and not like makeup. I have had many many compliments using this method.

Get a dull yellow, or mix in a little brown to cut down on the sunshine glow. As long as you're yellow you're fine.
