Pg 130 of the ARB states: If performed on an individual, Identify tells the caster what active spells or rituals are present and will also Identify any magic items the individual is carrying or wearing.
The nefarious wording used here is "spells". As a term, this would suggest that only effects that were cast on a player using a full incant may be identified (i.e. a Spell Shield which was applied with the verbal "I grant you the power of a Spell Shield" would be revealed, but not one that used the verbal "Arcane Spell Shield"). Is that how it is intended?
The other two possibilities that come to me are that the word should be replaced with either "Effects" (so, for instance, a Weakness, Love Potion #9, or Euphoria would be revealed through Identify regardless of whether or not it was applied to the character as a Spell, an Elixir, or some other application) or possibly "Effects from the Protection/Enhancement group" (so, a Spell Shield would show up regardless of the method applied, but Drain would not). The latter option could be expanded to include any particular schools we needed, natch.
