Important tavern information

Greetings from your friendly local Tavern keeper! As our numbers grow, so do the demands on the Tavern. I hope that our various offerings have been to everyone's liking, and I have more surprises in store.

Through observation, we have been exploring ways to run the tavern that provide a good environment for roleplaying and enjoyment, both in and out of character. In response to what I have learned, we will now have a set of rules for the tavern. Many of these were already in place in a less official fashion, but I think having them posted publicly will provide greater transparency and improve everyone's tavern experience.

I do plan on taking circumstances into account. For example, no one will get a dressing down for leaving their drink and food on the table when they rush out to fight the horde of whatever type is just outside the tavern (so long as they come back for it after the fight is over). Nor will I come down on someone who shares a personal snack with a friend.

If you have a situation that is not covered by the rules, think about whether or not the behavior you are contemplating would be acceptable in a bar with a kitchen or a restaurant that serves alcohol. If not, please don't do it out of game, and make sure you are willing to accept the consequences for it in game.

Tavern Rules:

Outside drinks and snacks are allowed for personal consumption only.

If you wish to have an event in the Tavern that involves food and drink, you must make arrangements with Jack (out of game) before the pre-registration deadline for the event. If you wish it to go off smoothly and without being asked to leave, you must also make arrangements with Harri Deepjug (in game) before you walk in with food and drink. For large events, this is likely to cost in-game coin.

If you wish to distribute or sell food or drink in the tavern, the same rules apply. At least two individuals have already made arrangements to have drinks sold by the tavern on their behalf.

Shelves, fridge and freezer in the back areas of the Tavern are for Tavern and arranged event food and drink only. There is no guarantee that there will be available space for arranged event items. Any unauthorized food or drink found in the back areas will be immediately consumed or discarded at the Tavern staff's discretion.

Leave the Tavern (or at least the area you occupied) at least as clean as you found it. Dishes go to the scullery window, packaging and scraps go in the trash, spills get mopped up, and so on. Apply common sense, and you'll be fine.

If you have leftover food that you wish to allow anyone to consume at will, please take it to one of the Guild halls for distribution. The Healer's and Merchant's Guilds particularly appreciate supplies of snacks to offer to visitors.

Thank you for your time,
Jack

Thank you for the clarifications and rules posting Jack.

I particularly like: "Any unauthorized food or drink found in the back areas will be immediately consumed"

I am very unhappy about both the content of this set of policies, and the lack of discussion and survey prior to their publication. I feel that this policy set is very one-sided, drawn up to accommodate Jack's desires as our tavernkeeper - both OOG and IG as Harri Deepjugs. I don't feel that it adequately addresses the needs of PCs to access the unique resource of the only kitchen onsite, and act toward the goal of ensuring that every player onsite can comfortably get food at regular intervals during the event.

I know that I included comments about the tavern, and what I'd like to see there in my Event Commentary. I received no response to those comments. Reading this set of policies which is actually pretty much across the board in direct contravention to what I mentioned in my event comments makes me feel like no one is actually reading that commentary -- which is a larger, and separate issue. Specific on the issue of the tavern, however, what I really want to know - from Jesse, the game owner - is: Is this set of policies published by Jack the game's final answer on this topic? Do we players get a say or chance for rebuttal here?

Thank you,
Trace Moriarty
