Alliance Denver places information cards around the campsite. This is to reward players who enjoy soaking up our gorgeous Rocky Mountain scenery with a nature walk, entertain introverts who need a break from the collective action, give some practical use to those fun Craftsman skills on your card, and let you self-entertain at your own pace between other encounters.
These info cards may be in or on buildings, or out in the woods if you go for a nature walk to explore our site. Look for them in the tavern, public buildings, and among the cabins, too!
These are printed on letter-size paper, either blue or orange, and placed in sheet protectors. We aim to place them usually around eye level for their intended audience; they are not usually hidden. They're in plain site, but around the whole campsite. These will be easily within 1 mile of the tavern at the center of our campsite.
If you see a card, you may read it. Each card gives a basic description of the scene in front of you, what everybody sees when they walk up. Each card lists certain requirements to get more information from the scene. Our Plot Team for the 2018 National Event utilizes PC Craftsman skills for these often. The requirement could also be your character's race, IG land of origin, group affiliation, or even a roleplay experience. If it describes a roleplay experience, the interpreptation is up to you whether or not you qualify. Examples of these requirements might include things like:
If you have the described requirement, flip the card over for secret information! If you don't meet the requirements, duh -- don't flip the card over just for funsies. That's cheating.
IMPORTANT: You are welcome to go find someone who meets the requirements, and bring them back to the card. How does your character know this? I don't know... make something up. We err on the side of FUN here, however. If the card says Tracker, and you're not a tracker, you may go find one.
There may be mod cards (what some of you call "lair cards") out onsite as well, but dozens of these do not provide mod hooks; they just provide information. Read the instructions on the card about whether to leave the card there, take it back to Monster Camp, trash it, whatever. Some have tags, and they'll be in the sheet protector; it will say in the instructions if tags should be there. Please don't remove the card unless instructed; you may be removing an opportunity for fun for other players later, and that's no bueno.
If you're reading about an encounter on a blue or orange card THAT DOES NOT EXPRESSLY SAY THAT IT LEADS TO A MOD, then the Event Plot Team intends this to be one-way information, and the scene is not intended to be interactive. Please do not come to Monster Camp asking to turn it into a mod on demand; we're not setup to accommodate that request. Mod Cards which ARE intended to be run that way will say so explicitly. (And there will be approximately 20 billion mod opportunities at the 2018 National Event!) Thanks for your understanding.
ORANGE CARDS FOR PAGES
Alliance Denver events (including National in May) will have special ORANGE cards just for our young pages. The requirement to view them is that your character has page status. (This is intended for younger players, not medical non-combatants.) These will be placed closer to the center of the site, and at a lower eye level for our young page players, in locations that we hope are not too challenging to find. They will contain age-appropriate story elements, educational pieces about the game, maybe small but fun puzzles, and sometimes very important hints and information about the story of the weekend that will enable our young heroes to play their role in important defense of the town! We hope our gamer families enjoy this element, and we're eager for your feedback about this element. (Please note that Denver has special rules for participation of young Pages; please consult Denver Staff or read our local chapter forums for more information.)
Happy adventuring, and we look can't wait to welcome you to Denver!
