Hello everyone. I'm down here in southern Oregon and was hearing rumours of a weekend event in june. Anyone care to fill me in as this will be my first larp of this sort(unless you count the days of werewolf and vampire but that was an age ago). Anyway, me and a buddy will be attending said event if it is happening and would like to know if we can purchase rulebooks from y'all or at the event or what? Also i could use a lil help...ok, ok alot of help making my character. I have a set of rules downloaded but without someone whos already done it it's a lil confusing for me..like they say, no substitute for experience...so, if someone coulsd help me out designing a fighter, or maybe ranger(but i don't know if that will work as i am doing a somewhat oriental type character, which is kinda wierd cuzz i'm Irish but i've always been fascinated w that culture)......Anyway, any help would be appreciated greatly.

P.S. Looks like you've got a good group here.

Welcome to NERO Seattle!

You can buy rulebooks at the event, usually for $15. If you're ever in the Portland area, I'd be happy to share my copy and go over the basics of creating a character if you like, as well as give you the quick 1-hour Intro to NERO (tm).

Many of us would be happy to loan you weapons for your first event if you need them as well. If you're building boffer weapons for the first time, it's always better to have gotten an overview of the process before trying to jump in with both feet.

Well thanks Brian. I am ordering some weapons from nighthawk, the nero website says the'yre approved for use, but i'd apreciate it if you brought a spare if your going to go to the event, just in case. If the event at millerslyvania is the 4th thru 6th, i should be arriving/passing thru Portland on the 3rd, not sure what time but maybe we could get together and flush out my character so the plot people don't flay me alive for making some character that just doesn't jive...lol. Oh yeah, my buddy is goin too and yes, he's never done a larp before, but we have both played d&d and other various roleplaying games since the dawn of tyme it seems. He wants to be a barbarian i believe. Could you, or anyone for that matter gimme a lil info on the lodging procedure? Do we have spots reserved, is their overnight camping their?, showers, etc? And is their a specific theme to this event, some reason? Oh well enough questions for now. Thanks for replying and hope to hear from you and others soon, i guess if someones really bored they could email me or whatever to get a pc started. lol.,

Shouldn't be a problem. What types of weapons will you be using?

I'll look at getting on site early on the 3rd (the event starts on the evening of the 3rd -- Friday -- and goes through midday on the 5th, Sunday). Before game starts we can sit down and work through your character concepts and see how they'd fit into the game.

There are heated cabins, but you'll want to bring your own sleeping bag. In addition, you may want to come up with your character's persona and start posting in the in-game section before you get there to work out sleeping arrangements (or of course you can do so on site) -- you can stay in your own cabin if you like, but for safety reasons I would advise trying to stay with other characters at least for your first event -- getting attacked and eaten by giant phase spiders in the middle of the night isn't the greatest introduction to the game for your characters :)

There are showers on site, as well as a fully stocked kitchen and walk-in fridge for cold food.

Normally I would recommend looking through the background section on the website, but they are currently out of date (we just changed the chapter-wide setting). You might want to send an email to plot@neroseattle.com asking for a brief summary of the area so you can come up with a character background -- if you can send in a detailed character background and get it approved before the event you will start with a significantly more powerful character.

I often have some time during the day -- if you want to get into the nitty-gritty of discussing character stats before the event, go ahead and email me at polare (at) larper (dot) com (obviously just substitute the @ and . into that) or check for me on AIM as GUEPolare.

Well, we are currently finishing up on our backgrounds, something of a drifted to your shores after a freak storm thing, and as for weapons i will be using a katana and wakazashi(longsword and shortsword). The barbarian i believe will be wielding a spiked mace and military hammer. That's 1 reason i need help, i don't even know if we can use two weapons or what. I have been in the sca for a long time but this seems more...not realistic, but different style of fighting. I'd like to get together with you before the event starts n spar a bit maybe so i will know weapons speeds and so forth, don't wanna piss off any half ogres out there. feel free to email me at vikingatlarge@hotmail if ya got any tips. Also, i have some armor but am debating on wearing it for weight issues. Don't want those pesky goblins scurrying away faster than i can catch em. Anyway, thanks again and anyone else w advice or whatever just let me know,

Hey and welcome. Just a quick warning, there are a lot of sites that claim their weapons are Nero legal, but they neve mention the fact that there are two entities by that name: Nero Alliance (us) and Nero International (them) and they have slightly different rules on some of their weapons that make them not usable at our game. If you post up the direct link to the site you're intending to get them from, I can take a look and let you know (or I'm sure someone else will do it if they jump on it first). Otherwise, if you let me know what kind of weapon you're looking for (longsword, short sword, dagger, staff) I can whip you up a basic one for materials cost, usually 15-20 bucks which is with an ultralight graphite core. You can also catch me on YIM as rainvillej and I can help ya along as needed too.

Thanks man. I might have you whip me up a couple samurai weapons if your up for it. As for the ones i'm getting, the endorsement is on the nero alliance website, the U.S. based one, new england i think..(yeah yeah don't roll yer eyes i'm new..lol). But a spare is always good and their quite spendy at that site but the look n quality are awesome. Thanks again and let mne know if yer up for making some stuff for me, for a nominal fee of course,

Duh, maybe i should be playing the barbarian(i can't believe i didn't post the link after all that..ok, here it is http://www.latex-weaponry.com(checking real quick for spelling errors), yeah, that's the ticket..i think..and for pitys sake how do i make it so a quote goes on at the bottom of my messages...?

Sorry mah brae, the site you're looking at is the homepage for international. Nero Alliance's homepage is http://www.nerohq.com

NERO alliance does not currently support the use of flatblade latex weaponry. The Knighthawk site doesn't mention that they're supported by international (which is kind of the way international likes it... but that's another story).

~Sarah

Actually they do, if you click on the NERO logo it links to the Nero International guidelines and endorsement, but a lot of people get tripped up by that. It's a pain. SO, with that being said, send me a PM or email me at rainvillej@yahoo.com and let me know what you're looking for in the way of swords and I can maybe hook you up.

That'd be a no, sorry man. I'd cancel now unless you want them just for show.

It figures, they had to be too good to be true. I have had em for a while for a martial arts group i'm in. We smack each other pretty good and they dont get a scratch, i figured theyd be perfect for light contact...but, so be it, condemned by envirnmentalists once again...j/k...SSOOO, apparently i'm gonna need some weapons after all...i'll buy, pillage, move furniture for, whatever..somebody help me.
