Junior LARP'n...you know...for kids

I haven't role played in over a decade, so to say I am out of the loop is putting it mildly.

Since then, I have spawned...I am father to a mighty 3 year old, to be exact. LARP'n, for myself, does not hold a lot of appeal. LARP'n for my kid, however, sounds like a whole lot of fun.

I have searched the web and, to my surprise, there isn't much in the way of kid LARP'n. It seems that liability is a major issue, though I also imagine that dealing with differing age groups, their needs, etc. would also be a big issue.

Which is why I came to the board in the first place. I am looking for resources RE:Junior LARP'n. What dusty tombs do parents have at their disposal for Junior LARP'n? I was hoping someone with ungodly levels of XP and maybe a few talent points spent in the "LARP'n with kids" tree would have written something or, heaven forbid, actually be cultivating a group of Junior LARPers.

Please help. This seems like something that should be natural and fun for all.

I bring my almost-2-year-old daughter to events with me. She loves the mini-shield and sword I made for her and she's totally enamored with any Sarr characters (two regulars in the home chapter). She's well-behaved, or else I wouldn't bring her along. She does require a lot of looking after, of course, so I get a lot less fighting done and try to focus on my RP.

As for kid-centered events, a couple of other chapters have a Kids' Event every year (HQ and Crossroads). I'm not sure how they cover the liability issues, but they use a simplified version of our rules set and sometimes even tie it in to the ongoing current plot line. Here, in SF, there don't seem to be enough of us "breeders" to warrant having a kids' event to entertain our children ;) Get more parents involved and maybe we can petition to change that! :D

There is a group in Northern California called "Fan War" www.fanwar.com who has a strong children's LARP group that takes place in the South Bay quite frequently. Although this is usually for around the ages of 9-15 but still, they seem to have very simple rules and so on.

The also run 'adult' games up in the Lower Lake area.
